Lawyer won't say if more lawsuits are in the works

Picked this story up at cnet, me and gran were talking about Microsoft just last night and Linux,,

REDMOND, Wash.--Microsoft's top intellectual property lawyer said that the company's legal action against TomTom over Linux was specific to that company, but he declined to say whether other suits over the open source operating system might follow.

"I wouldn't speculate at this point," Horacio Gutierrez told CNET News in an interview late Wednesday. Gutierrez did add that Microsoft's patent suit against TomTom, which includes three claims related to file management techniques used in the Linux kernel, was specific to that company.

It is the "TomTom implementation of the Linux kernel that infringes these claims," Gutierrez said. "There are many flavors of Linux (and) many implementations of the Linux kernel. Cases such as these are very fact-specific."

Red Hat and Micorsoft Partner Up?

In what came as a surprise to many Linux observers, Red Hat announced on the morning of February 16th that it has signed reciprocal agreements with Microsoft to enable increased interoperability for the companies' virtualization platforms.

While Red Hat, after Novell partnered with Microsoft, had talked with Microsoft in 2007 about partnering, those talks came to nothing since Red Hat would not have anything to do with Microsoft's various IP (intellectual property) claims.

Only time will tell how this all pans out, I don't think I would want to run Linux on Windows. You can bet MS has something up it's sleeve.

This is very interesting indeed, if Louisiana residents are following the news I would not count on Mr.Jindal to be getting to many of their votes next time, but the public seems sometimes to have a short memory so they may cut him some slack on rejecting monies to help out about 25,000 of his constituents.

In all, Jindal turned away nearly $100 million in federal aid for his state’s unemployed residents. Further, as the National Employment Law Project projected on Febuary 13, EUC extension alone would have benefited 24,981 Louisiana residents. Jindal justified his decision by claiming that expanding unemployment benefits would result in tax increases for businesses.

Cartoon seems to link Obama to dead chimp - Politics- msnbc.com

Whatever or however they try to swing this it is as racist as it gets and that’s the bottom line;

NEW YORK - The New York Post is standing behind a cartoon that some have interpreted as comparing President Barack Obama to a violent chimpanzee gunned down by police. The cartoon in Wednesday's Post by Sean Delonas shows two police officers standing over the body of a bullet-riddled chimp. One of the officers says the other, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."

I saw an interview with the owner of the chimp who had him for 14 years and she seemed so distraught to have to stab him to get him to quit mauling her friend, the friend is in the hospital with massive injuries and the doctors seem to think it will be a long road to recovery. This little dig by the post shows not only insensitivity to our President but to the owner of the chimp as well, they should hang their head in shame, scenes like this are best left to the National Inquirer not so called upstanding news papers.

This is a great looking template called 'desk mess' and it kind of looks like my desk so I thought I would put this one on and let you take a look at it. The set-up is rather quick on this one and it has a large side-bar to it.

For instance the widgets over there are close to 200px each and they look better centered so I centered them all, here is a link to the template if you want to check it out. I may keep this one a while, definitely one of my favorites.

Switched to 64bit version Debian Linux, I like it

Finally upgraded to the 64bit version of Debian Linux and it is working rather well to say the least, had some major trouble with flash until I downloaded the unstable version from the website, works like a dream even Opera is seeing the flash now where as before, Opera only saw a blank white screen when looking at you tube videos.

Screenshot is of the bluesy theme to see a large version of this one just click on the photo and you can see the large version, you can see more screen shots over at the download site though.

The 32bit version only show me I believe 3.2 GB ram, the 64bit shows me 7.8 GB, which if you are like me let's you utilize all your memory available.

I downloaded the icons separately that goes with this theme it is the tango-noir 0-8.0 icon theme and they look great on this theme, the colors are subtle blue hues, very modern and elegant. I have tried quite a few themes from the site out but this is one of my all time favorites, click photo to enlarge my desktop.
