Specter aligns with Democrats

Posted: 4/28/2009 by Floyd in Labels: ,

Sen. Arlen Specter said in a statement that his views are more in line with Democrats and that in 2010 he will seek re-election on the Democratic ticket, but he also says that he will not be an automatic vote and some of his views will not change, and judging from his statement he feels the Republican party has drifted to far to the right to include his views;

Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania released this statement today.

I have been a Republican since 1966. I have been working extremely hard for the Party, for its candidates and for the ideals of a Republican Party whose tent is big enough to welcome diverse points of view. While I have been comfortable being a Republican, my Party has not defined who I am. I have taken each issue one at a time and have exercised independent judgment to do what I thought was best for Pennsylvania and the nation.

Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans.

When I supported the stimulus package, I knew that it would not be popular with the Republican Party. But, I saw the stimulus as necessary to lessen the risk of a far more serious recession than we are now experiencing.

Since then, I have traveled the State, talked to Republican leaders and office-holders and my supporters and I have carefully examined public opinion. It has become clear to me that the stimulus vote caused a schism which makes our differences irreconcilable. On this state of the record, I am unwilling to have my twenty-nine year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate. I have not represented the Republican Party. I have represented the people of Pennsylvania.

Egypt to search 3 sites for Cleopatra's tomb

Posted: 4/19/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

Got to blog this one since I am such a big fan of history;

CAIRO – Archaeologists will begin excavating sites in Egypt next week in an attempt to solve a mystery that has stymied historians for hundreds of years: Where is the final resting place of doomed lovers Cleopatra and Mark Antony?

Archaeologists looking for the tombs of the celebrated queen of Egypt and the Roman general will begin excavating three sites at a temple where tombs may be located, Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities said in a statement Wednesday.

Cleopatra and Mark Antony, whose relationship was later immortalized by William Shakespeare and then in a movie with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, could have been buried in a deep shaft in a temple near the Mediterranean Sea, the council said.

Archaeologists last year unearthed the alabaster head of a Cleopatra statue, 22 coins bearing Cleopatra's image and a mask believed to belong to Mark Antony at the temple.

Palin's New Disaster - The Daily Beast

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

Unbelievable that is all I can say, Palin who hopes to become the right wing nomination for president in 2012 just keeps going off into right la la land, get a load of her latest appointment she tried to push through excerpt from Max Blumenthal;

While priming her political machine for a likely 2012 presidential primary run, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has fomented a scandal that threatens to further erode her reputation in the Last Frontier. In March, Palin nominated Wayne Anthony Ross for attorney general. Ross, a colorful far-right lawyer and longtime Palin ally who sports his initials, W.A.R., on his Hummer’s vanity plates, was once considered a shoo-in for confirmation. However, his nomination was thrown into grave peril when his opponents presented evidence that he called homosexuals “degenerates,” leveled invective against an African-American student offended by a statue of a Klansman, vowed to undermine the sovereignty of Native American tribes, and allegedly defended men who rape their wives. According to two sources close to the confirmation hearings, Palin may ask Ross to withdraw before his appointment comes to a vote.

According to Burton, who detailed the allegations for me, Ross allegedly declared during a speech before a 1991 gathering of the “father’s rights” group Dads Against Discrimination, “If a guy can’t rape his wife, who’s he gonna rape?”

Wind Energy Industry with Green Detroit Jobs

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

This could possibly bring some bad needed good news to the regions economy and the very least it is a step in the right direction, Chris Long the founder of and CEO of Global Wind Systems while being interviewed by the Detroit News on applications he received; "It may not have to do much more. "We've received several thousand resumes up to this point," Long said, adding that more than 90 percent of applicants listed automotive experience."

The company received $7.3 million in tax credits from the Michigan Economic Growth Authority in December to create 256 direct jobs over six years. Long said the company likely will grow well beyond that number within two years -- to more than 400 employees -- and hopes to source components for its 1.5 megawatt turbines to in-state suppliers, a move that could support thousands of additional manufacturing jobs.

All of this is sounding good and as long as we are going in the right direction we are making progress all of the making of different parts go into these turbines, which will also generate more jobs;

"We're used to building and finishing various metal parts for the auto industry. Wind turbines need gear boxes and ball bearings, too," said John Sarver, chairman of the Michigan Wind Working Group, a part of the state's Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth.

There is plenty of opportunity for suppliers to machine wind components, Sarver said, noting that each turbine consists of about 8,000 precision parts.

Studio Press Blue Template,,a cool change

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

Here is a nice looking template called studio press blue, there are so many nice ones coming out now it is hard for me to keep up with them. More than likely I will try as many out as I can though, you can edit the welcome post at right in the HTML section and you can put your blog name in the template also in the HTML section. There is a brand new template I can't wait to try out so I will have to bookmark it and get it latter, like I say there are so many coming out now it is hard to try them all and the thing about it is that they all look good, I would like to thank all involved in making these really nice templates for blogger and making them free because without the hard work of the these people blogger would still be kind of bland. I have been a help to a few who have e-mail me on how to set some of these up, so if you need a quick lesson I would be happy to help just drop me a line or two about it.

Lily Tomlin's Ernestine rakes Sarah Palin and Michael Vick over the fire

Always ready to lend a helping hand, I dropped by at the Hollywood office of The Humane Society of the United States to shoot a video to be shown at the 23rd Genesis Awards Saturday, March 28. True to form, I did not hold back on letting my true feelings be known about my concerns for animals and the miserable treatment they so often receive at the hands of humans. Don’t get me started. Click here to find out how everyone from Sarah Palin and Mayor Villaraigosa to Michael Vick and Neal Cavuto gets the rough end of my tongue.

This is a great video Ernestine gets down and dirty With Palin and Vick on her latest video concerning animal rights, Tomlin always plays this character well and this time is no different, video after the jump.

Reflection Template, a fresh change

Posted: 4/08/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

Reflection template is a real nice one, it seems blogger templates continue to get better and better these days, this template has a glide slide built in. You can add any photo's you wish to the slide but, you have to add some code to the widget that appears in your layout just above the blog posts. After adding the code you can link to your favorite photo, and display them right on your blog.

Reflection also adds a read more link that is automatically inserted by itself so if you use this template you won't have to go through and add it yourself like in the older templates that had this feature. Be sure to click on the installation and settings link over at btemplates when you check out this nice template to get the in's and out's of it.

Media allowed to cover another casualty

Posted: by Floyd in Labels: , ,

DOVER, Del. (AP) - On a cold April night, under a bright moon, the body of Army Specialist Israel Candelaria Mejias arrived at Dover Air Force Base in a flag-draped aluminum case.

Mejias, of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, was killed by an improvised explosive device Sunday while serving in Iraq.

His return Tuesday marked the second time this week members of the media were allowed to witness a U.S. combat casualty being brought back from overseas, ending the Pentagon's 18-year ban on such coverage.

Mejias' body arrived in Delaware shortly before 8:30 p.m. aboard a C-17 military cargo jet from Ramstein, Germany.

A little more than hour later, an eight-member team from the Army's Old Guard in Washington, D.C., slowly walked up the rear ramp of the C-17 and into the cargo hold, where an advance team from the military mortuary at Dover stood quiet sentinel over the fallen soldier's body.

Following the white-gloved carry team were Col. Robert Edmondson, commander of the mortuary affairs operations, chaplain Maj. Klavens Noel, and Brig. Gen. Walter Davis, director of Army aviation.

Davis and Edmondson bowed their heads as Noel recited a brief prayer. The carry team then gently picked up the case bearing the soldier's body and carried it to a waiting vehicle for transport to the mortuary, where it will be processed and returned to the family.
This is a big switch from the cloak of darkness put on the American public since 1991,,The Pentagon has banned the media from taking pictures of military caskets returning from war since 1991,citing concern for the privacy of grieving families and friends of the dead soldiers. The Bush administration issued a stern reminder of that policy in March 2003, shortly before the war in Iraq began.

I feel that if it is alright with the family, then, it is alright. I think also when this was issued that the real reason behind it was to blind the citizens to what was taking place over there and nothing more.

Unable so far to get the comment box working on the post page using the pop-up commenter instead, but minor compared to the looks of this template. (Works now read on)

To embed the comment box below the posts you must add a bit of code to the template,,click on edit html and then expand widgets, search for this line of code

<b:include data='post' name='comments'>

Immediately after this paste in this line of code;

<b:include data='post' name='comment-form'/>

This is how I managed to get the embed code below posts to show up on this template, enjoy this great template.

Found something else out about blogger and this template, so I moved the post up a few dates to keep it on the front page, if you want the comment form centered on the post just add the tag above the the code you added, add this tag above it..

Green Lithium Batteries, and Viruses?

Posted: 4/03/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

Researchers at MIT have managed to genetically engineer viruses so that they can build rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in the form of a plastic film. These new batteries could then be used in anything from cellphones to iPods to the rechargeable batteries in plug-in electric hybrid cars.

Before you start getting scared these viruses are benign to humans, after saying that it looks like the future is here.
