Note Guy template add twitter button

This is a great looking template and I added a twit this button to this one fairly easy and you can also, first go into layout of your template and click the Edit HTML, then expand widgets and look for this code;

<data:post.body/>

After this code is your bookmark codes, go download you a 24 x 24px twitter button and pick a place to add it, either at the end or make room before the end to add it, upload your twitter button to blogger and check the edit html code in your editor and look for the src=the http link, by coping this link you can make the image appear without hosting it anywhere just save now the twitter button after giving the post a name and then copy the src=(url) to use to display the twitter image in your book mark section like this;

This will add a twitter this image to all your posts as well as the other links that are provided in this template, and if not twitter add other social bookmarks this is a neat template give it a try, and remember the twitter image you saved in the post you made you have to go into edit HTML of your editor to find the src='IMAGE LINK'.

Install Opera 10 on Slackware x86_64

Go over to SlackBuilds.org and get the 64bit source download (only if you have 64bit) and download the file, next in a terminal cd to the current place you downloaded the file and un-tar it using the command, tar -xvjf the opera file name.tar.bz2.

After it is un-tarred cd to the file where it is and become root by using the su command, after you are root issue the command ./install.sh after this it will ask questions answer y for yes to these and then that's it Opera will appear in your internet packages.

This is actually my file from slack build;
cd /home/linux/Desktop
Once there enter this command;
tar -xvjf opera-10.00.gcc4-qt4.86_64.tar.bz2
so now we need to know the number of the un-packed file and enter the folder,
cd /home/linux/Desktop/opera-10.00-4585.gcc4-qt4.x86_64
Once there make sure you are logged in as root and simply issue the command ./install.sh and answer the yes questions.

Slackware 13.0 x86_64 KDE 4.2.4

Testing some Slackware Linux, Slackware 13.0 x86_64. screen-shot of the KDE desktop, modified. Click on photo for a larger view, after installing this Slackware it seems to run real smooth this is the 64bit and I immediately noticed by sliding in one of my favorite movies it started playing with out downloading anything and usually I have to download extras to play a movie. I did plug in my bluetooth device and have not gotten it to work yet,probably just something I am doing wrong. Follow the links below to read about it and give it a try, so far I like it real well.

After one of the most intensive periods of development in Slackware's history, the long awaited stable release of Slackware 13.0 is ready. This release brings with it many major changes since Slackware 12.2, including a completely reworked collection of X packages (a configuration file for X is no longer needed in most cases), major upgrades to the desktop environments (KDE version 4.2.4 and Xfce version 4.6.1), a new .txz package format with much better compression, and other upgrades all around -- to the development system, network services, libraries, and major applications like Firefox and Thunderbird. We think you'll agree that this version of Slackware was worth the wait. Also, this is the first release of Slackware with native support for the 64-bit x86_64 architecture! Major kudos to Eric Hameleers for all of his work, especially on the 64-bit port.

Nice template called Creative by Nature

8

Great looking template called Creative by Nature can be found over at Deluxe Templates, this is really a neat looking template. When I first installed it the page element page on the widgets was floating a little to the right and hiding the edit widget link. I found a fix around this by adding some code before the skin tag in the edit html section, first log into blogger and go to layout and edit html, look for this code;
.left-area {
display:inline;
float:left;
margin-bottom:0;
margin-top:0;
padding-left:17px;
padding-right:5px;
}
#footer p {
margin-top:10px;
}
.right-area {
display:inline;
float:right;
padding-right:17px;
}
</b:skin>

Directly above the skin tag add this code,remember you have to create a space there so put your pointer directly in front of } and hit enter to create the space to paste your code in. Paste in this code;

/** Page structure tweaks for layout editor wireframe */
body#layout #header {
width: 760px;
}
body#layout #outer-wrapper,
body#layout #content-wrapper,
body#layout #header,
body#layout #footer-wrapper {
width: 760px;
}

body#layout #main-wrapper {
width: 400px;
}

body#layout #sidebar-wrapper {
width: 300px;
margin-left: 10px;
}

Now when you go to your layout page should be able to see the edit widget line, I have only tried this in Firefox but should work with Internet Explorer also, and I almost forgot don't forget to save your template after adding your new code. The main idea for editing wireframe came from, the Blogger Guide but I altered the code a little and change the numbers as you can see. The orginal is for a 3 column template.
Update; tested this in IE,Firefox,Opera-10 and Google Chrome, it works with everything except Chrome and it probably could be tweaked some way to work in chrome also.

Pot garden discovered on public land

Posted: 9/01/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

Apparently it is worth over 36 million dollars, watching the video I found out that the people who come up here have masterful irrigation systems installed for watering their crop. More patrols would probably find this stuff faster and find a lot more of it, in my neck of the woods alone helicopters patrol all the time looking for the stuff.

This week’s bust in California is one of the largest yet, and is the first time Sequoia National Park had to close down an exhibit as a result of a drug bust. Sadly, that exhibit is a well-known cave, with a crystal-covered interior.

Authorities discovered the massive pot garden only about a half-mile away from the popular cave. Park Rangers repelled from helicopter to clear out the site, which included trash, propane tanks, and thousands of feet of irrigation hose. Much of the pot garden had already been harvested, but combined with the remaining plants was estimated to be worth at least $36 million.

Is it really death of the robocall? We can only hope

Well what the FTC is planning to do could be another nail in the coffin so to speak, and reading this story kind of build up my hopes that the robocall could finally die and give up the ghost, but I will give it some time and see how many dinner interruptions I get after the ban goes into effect.

The rule change, then, will affect companies that can legally make telemarketing calls but are not banks, charities, telcos, or politicians. Such companies will need to obtain written consent from consumers before robocalling them.

Apparently violaters also face of fine of up to $16,000 per call, this sounds like good news but just can't believe the old aggravating calls known as robocall will go down without a fight there are too many of us out there they can terrorize,,lol, These are some of the biggest annoicances (Banks, politicians, charities, and telephone companies are also allowed to robocall away, even when asking for cash.)

Here is a real nice and clean template called Loading Template, this one is one of the cleanest yet and it does show some vivid color on the ads on the demonstration but I stuck with the main theme it also has ads in the sidebar and one in the header, I utilized the one in the header and kind of stuck to the overall theme of the template. This is a good looking one and joins some of my favorites.

Checking out the Google V8 unstable it's fast

Posted: 8/27/2009 by Floyd in Labels: ,

To see the version of chrome you may be using open a tab and type about:version and it will tell you I decided to try out this V8 version and one thing for sure is the thing is very fast and comparing it to my other browsers seems much faster but would imagine to figure the speed correctly many variables have to be took into account and I am not doing that lets just say the websites I frequent seem faster.

My version;
Google Chrome4.0.202.2 (Official Build 23795)
WebKit532.0
V81.3.4
User AgentMozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US) AppleWebKit/532.0 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.202.2 Safari/532.0

There are probably problems that will arise from this unstable but I am impressed with the speed of it, and if you feel to live somewhat on the edge today go over and download you a spin of this, it has some speed. The deb packages are on the page down toward the bottom for the 32bit or 64bit systems.

To remove it simply open a terminal and type this;
sudo apt-get remove google-chrome-unstable

And with that it should ask y or n, just push y for yes and it is gone.

Court overturns software decision

The SCO Group vowed to renew legal battles against computer giant IBM and Novell after a federal appeals court ruled Monday in its favor on key issues related to the ownership of software programs that run the computers of companies around the world.

CEO Darl McBride hailed the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals decision as putting back on track its 6-year-old legal battle with IBM. SCO claims its Unix operating system was used illegally by its huge adversary to make a crucial improvement that turned the Linux system into a competitor.

The ruling may mean The SCO Group will renew its effort to collect licensing fees from thousands of companies that run the Linux system, said McBride. He also said the ruling again calls into question IBM's ability to continue marketing its Aix server program, which is derived from Unix.

Obese people have 8 percent less brain tissue?

I knew that being overweight had a lot of downsides such as a negative effect on blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease to name a few, but this is the first time I have seen this linked to affects on the human brain and it just gives us another reason to cut back on the calories. This is really a great little article and a real eye opener for me and I am not obese but, it makes me want to cut back a little more on the corn bread and pork chops oh, uh, and the vanilla shakes.

A new study finds obese people have 8 percent less brain tissue than normal-weight individuals.
Their brains look 16 years older than the brains of lean individuals, researchers said today. Those classified as overweight have 4 percent less brain tissue and their brains appear to have aged prematurely by 8 years. The results, based on brain scans of 94 people in their 70s, represent "severe brain degeneration," said Paul Thompson, senior author of the study and a UCLA professor of neurology.

Blogger HTML encode with Grease Monkey

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

Script adds a HTML encode selection at the bottom of the posting window in blogger, so let's try it out. First I installed the firefox add-on here Grease Monkey Add-On.
Then I went ahead and installed the script here, Grease Monkey Script.
The code you want to show you simply paste it in the posting window and highlight it and click the extra button you see on the right and it should work, like this;

<b:if cond='data:post.embedCommentForm'>
<b:if cond='data:post.allowNewComments'>
<b:include data='post' name='comment-form'>
<b:else>
<data:post.nonewcommentstext>
</data:post.nonewcommentstext>
<b:else>
<b:if cond='data:post.allowComments'>
<data:postcommentmsg></data:postcommentmsg>
</b:if>
</b:else>

And we see how it works, and if the code shows up in our post if it does show up we now have an easy way to do it, so click the links and try this one out very useful tool when posting code. One other thing when you highlight your code make sure you are in the Edit Html section in your blogger post and not Compose section. Still had to clean it up a bit because it inserted this " instead of this ' but all and all a useful tool none the less.

How I installed font in Ubuntu fairly easy

Posted: 8/23/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

I will give you an example of a font I use just to get the idea, take the font Desyrel for example; Desyrel font dafont.com download the font to your desktop and extract it there just right click and extract here it will give you a folder.

on keyboard press Alt+F2 and type in gksudo nautilus and after this it will open a window as root click on file system then usr>share>fonts>truetype and you will want to drag your extracted DESYREL_.ttf from desktop to truetype and drop it there.

Close the window and click on system system>preferences>appearance and click on fonts, and search there click on corresponding window beside the application font, document font, etc.
My settings;
Application font Desyrel 12
Document font Desyrel 12
Desktop font Desyrel 12
window title font (Bold) Desyrel 12
fixed width font Desyrel 12
This is being used as an example, change the font as you wish or use a different one they should all work like this.
Ubuntu default is all 10 and is all sans except last one is monospace, window title font in Ubuntu is also bold, I also make sure that subpixel smoothing (LCDS) is ticked in fonts makes the font easier to read for me.

Glue to help bond bone together shows promise

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:
0

Very good article about the glue inspired by the Sandcastle worm shows a lot of promise to the medical industry, but forming glue in the blood vs forming it in sea water may be very different but apparently changes in PH cause the glue to harden and where the PH is low the glue is a fluid.

the researchers recreated a synthetic version of the worm's adhesive--a polyacrylate glue that is water soluble but doesn't dissolve in liquid, is at least as strong as Super Glue, and is twice as strong as the worm's original glue. Cell culture experiments showed no sign of toxicity; early tests in rats appear to back that up and also show no unusual immune reaction.

The medical industry is in need of better glues that when applied to wet surfaces they don't just migrate away, and an even greater need on it's usage in grafting small fragments of bone together. Karp notes that there's still a lot of work to be done. "Just the idea of forming glue in the presence of blood may be very different than forming it under seawater or under lab conditions," he says. But he believes that the group is off to a good start. "I think it's a really interesting and novel approach, to better understand the biology of the sandcastle worm to create new adhesives," Karp says. "Evolution is the best problem solver. There's nothing that can compete with it."

Had to add a dot after nautilus in launcher cairo-dock

Something strange happened when using cairo-dock in Ubuntu jaunty today, I actually selected a new theme I think it was chrome by cos any way my launcher would not work to open nautilus you have to right click on the launcher and select modify and then you will open a window where you can see the command on click, mine just said nautilus. I skipped a space and added a dot and it works perfect after that, I remember reading somewhere where this would work and it did and so instead of it just saying nautilus it now says nautilus . (after adding the period it works like a charm now), I don't know how many launchers this affects but it does some of them and if it happens this could get it working again.

This is a neat item you can add in Ubuntu and probably many distributions of Linux, it's the desktop cube. First you have to have compiz fusion and download the Compiz Config Settings Manager, this little item will occupy you for a while. In your task bar if you have the workspace switcher added, or if you don't right click and choose add to panel and add it. Right click on the workspace and choose properties this will bring up a small screen and then choose 3 columns and 3 rows, from here you can go Alt+Ctrl and left click your mouse and get this affect, depending on how many desktops you have open.

This project to us is a platform to establish a critical dialogue within our built environment; to raise questions as much as it is to finding solutions. The project is a critique on our cultural attitudes and how we determine them. A critique on what we consider to be of heritage significance and how to narrate such ideas in a critical and contemporary manner.

A legend,Les Paul dies at age 94

Posted: 8/13/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

All the blogging in the world could not fully say what this man has done for music, the man who developed the solid body guitar among other music inventions passed away today at the age of 94;

NEW YORK — Les Paul, the guitar virtuoso and inventor who revolutionized music and created rock 'n' roll as surely as Elvis Presley and the Beatles by developing the solid-body electric guitar and multitrack recording, died Thursday at age 94.

Known for his lightning-fast leads, Paul performed with some of early pop's biggest names and produced a slew of hits, many with wife Mary Ford. But it was his inventive streak that made him universally revered by guitar gods as their original ancestor and earned his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the most important forces in popular music.

Paul, who died in White Plains, N.Y., of complications from pneumonia, was a tireless tinkerer, whose quest for a particular sound led him to create the first solid-body electric guitar, a departure from the hollow-body guitars of the time. His invention paved the way for modern rock 'n' roll and became the standard instrument for legends like Pete Townshend and Jimmy Page.

Dell: Returns are a non-issue

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

This is what tech senior marketing manager had to say about MS spouting off about return ratio of Linux machines verses Microbloat, uh, Microsoft.

the number of Linux returns are approximately the same as those for Windows netbooks. He categorized the matter of returns as a "non-issue". "They are making something of nothing," he said of Microsoft's claims.

This was in response to; Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner recently talked about netbook and claimed that retailers experiencing higher return rates.

And the reason that we were able to make so much traction - because this is the first real test of the value of Windows - the reason we were able to make so much traction on this particular space is because we went to retailers and said, "Hey, what are your return rates on these Linux netbooks that you are getting?" And they said, "Oh, gosh, they're, like, four or five times higher than what we're seeing on other PCs that have Windows." I said, "Exactly." So let's do the TCO story.

Microsoft seemed to be insinuating that netbooks with Linux were some kind of in the stratosphere return problem, which just isn't so.

eSolar launches in California

I was watching this I believe on the Discovery channel where they were trying to get one of the huge boilers up on the tower, apparently they have succeeded and was able to launch and get up and running, sounds like great news we just need more of them, apparently it will be supplying 4,000 homes;

Located in Lancaster, California, this is the first eSolar concentrating solar thermal power plant with 24,000 mirrors instead of the company’s usual 12,000. The entire plant was built less than a year through the use of eSolar’s pre-fabricated components. Within that span of time, the plant’s heliostat mirrors have been utilized in various occasions, not to harness energy, but to greet the company CEO on his birthday and celebrate USA’s Independence Day. As was intended by Southern California Edison and eSolar, the 5-megawatt Sierra SunTower plant was connected to the grid this August 5 to power 4,000 homes in California’s Antelope Valley.

Did blogger fix the follower widget?

Posted: 8/08/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

That is what I keep asking myself because I just put it back on here and testing it with Explorer and so far it is working, but that is not to say that tomorrow it might not be again I was just racking my brain wondering why all of a sudden I can open my blog up using IE-8 with the follower widget on there. I have just done a fresh install of vista on my machine and maybe that's why? I have Linux on here and that is what I mostly use I just use IE-8 when I log into windows to test some things now and then and find that I can now add the follower widget without it breaking IE-8, oh well I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it and see what happens I don't want to rest to easy knowing what trouble I've had in the past.

I just figured out IE-8 not seeing my blog?

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

Since I run FireFox all the time or Opera I opened up IE and found my blog not showing up and that I had put a bit of javascript code in the side-bar that seemed to be the culprit, but removing the code took out my little subscribe to twitter icon that scrolled with the page. But anyway it seems to be rendering o.k for now and that could be the under statement of the year, but so many people are using it you have to make it compatible for now.

Install Firefox 3.5.2 on Ubuntu x86_64 through Ubuntuzilla

Posted: 8/05/2009 by Floyd in Labels: ,
1

I did a lot of checking and found many how to out there on this one, but having to choose one this one worked great for me and let's hope it does for you also.

I downloaded the files I needed from Ubuntuzilla, it is a self extracting .deb file so pretty straightforward on the installation. Here is where you will find the files from Ubuntuzilla; Sourceforge Ubuntuzilla files, just make sure you get the right one mine is a 64bit so I got the amd64.deb file, if you are running the 32bit you would get the i386.debfile.

After installing from Ubuntuzilla go over to Ubuntu Manual and make sure you have those dependencies enter in terminal command,,

sudo apt-get install libstdc++5 libnotify-bin

I already had those but ran it just to be sure, after this type in command;

and follow the install instructions from there, one other thing when it goes down to getting the key it might take a little while to do so don't get antsy.

"When Firefox starts it probably won't connect to the internet" so in the address navigation type in about:config and hit enter, it will say something about voiding the warranty just continue and in the filter type in network.dns.disableIPv6 you want to double click on that to make it read true instead of false, then close and restart. If you want to read more just go over and read Ubuntuzilla, this worked great for me.

Great looking fluid width called Evidens White

Great looking template I got over at btemplates, it's called Evidens White and it is fluid I like these they look a little better on my wide screen.

I even went into windows and opened IE-8 up just to see how it loaded this and it loaded this template great without any errors, I have been having some problems while in windows concerning IE-8 and how it renders a lot of pages.

But IE has given me trouble for years I think some update that Microsoft put out affected IE-8 and messed up something? But, at any rate go over and give this one a shot real clean nice looking template.

Windows goes the other way on IE and Europe

Posted: 8/02/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

Apparently now windows is going to ship IE with windows 7 anyway, as far as I am reading this right.

A week ago the European Commission said it welcomed our proposal to provide Windows users a “consumer ballot screen” to select the Web browser of their choice to surf the Internet. We believe this approach addresses the Commission’s previously stated competition law concerns regarding our inclusion of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) browser in Windows.

I’d like to use this post to explain in more detail how the consumer ballot screen would work. But first I’d like to update you on our Windows 7 launch plans for Europe, which I blogged about on June 11.

As I explained at the time, we are committed to making Windows 7 available in Europe at the same time it is available to consumers worldwide on October 22.

To meet that goal, and in light of the Commission’s pending legal inquiry of our inclusion of IE in Windows, we decided last month that we would ship a unique version of Windows 7 in Europe—which we dubbed Windows 7 “E”—that would not include a Web browser. Instead, we decided to offer IE separately and on an easy-to-install basis to both computer manufacturers and users who wanted the Microsoft browser.

We have now decided to alter that launch plan. In the wake of last week’s developments, as well as continuing feedback on Windows 7 E that we have received from computer manufacturers and other business partners, I’m pleased to report that we will ship the same version of Windows 7 in Europe in October that we will ship in the rest of the world.

If the Commission accepts our recent proposal, we would then fully implement all of its terms. As proposed, we would use the Internet to deliver a ballot screen update to customers who purchase Windows 7 in the European Economic Area, either as part of a PC or as a retail upgrade product.

Install flash on opera 10 for x86_64bit system

I wanted to give opera 10 a try and soon discovered it is very fast,but,just don't have enough extensions like Firefox but fast as it is I use it quite a lot just for surfing around. My problem after the download was that I went to youtube and I had audio but no video, so I am looking for a quick fix and found it.

Go over to softpedia and download the flash player for 64bit Linux to your desktop as a tar file and right click on it and extract here. You will end up with a libflashplayer.so file, press alt+F2 and type in gksudo nautilus, navigate to the file system then usr/lib/opera there should be a folder called plugins there. Drag and drop the libflashplayer.so file into this folder and now you should be able to open opera 10 and watch some youtube.

Remember this is for the 64bit system, I am running it now and it is working great for me I hope it works great for you guys also, lets make it simple, the simpler the better.

Make windows show in bottom panel of Gnome

After installing Cairo-dock I deleted my top panel in Gnome and wiped out just about everything in the bottom panel and then I noticed that Firefox or any other window I opened did not appear on the panel, I found a quick fix for this over at Only Ubuntu Linux. A Google search put me onto this and it worked like a charm got my windows appearing again on the panel so I know what I have open. C/P from Only Ubuntu Linux;

First open up a terminal window: Applications > Accessories > Terminal

Enter the following command

killall gnome-panel

If there was an applet blocking your windows list that should have resolved the problem. If not read on.

Now Right click on the bottom panel and click "Add to Panel"

Scroll down to the bottom and click "Window List" then click add and click close.

Your windows should appear now.

KDE's Plasma netbook, ars takes a look at the prototype

Posted: 7/26/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

This could be a real ground breaker for Linux, it seems netbooks are gaining more popularity these days and over at ars they take a look at the prototype to see how it compares with the conventional KDE environment;

The Linux platform is beginning to gain mainstream acceptance on
low-cost netbook devices. The growing popularity of netbooks presents a
major opportunity for the open source operating system, but it also
comes with some challenges. One of the most significant problems is
that much of the open source software that is available today for the
desktop is not designed to deliver an optimal user experience on small
screens.

Linux distributors and application developers are exploring
alternate user interface concepts that will work well at low
resolutions without compromising productivity. There is also a clear
need to boost usability as netbook devices are broadly intended for the
regular consumer market. The KDE desktop environment has recently
gained a new specialized netbook interface that leverages the strengths
of KDE's unique Plasma technology. Ars tested it on Kubuntu to see how
it compares to the conventional KDE desktop experience.

Microsoft offers a deal to EU on Explorer

The European Commission said in a statement Friday that Microsoft /quotes/comstock/15*!msft/quotes/nls/msft (MSFT 23.51, +0.06, +0.26%) has proposed offering Windows users a "ballot screen" from which they could, "if they wished - easily install competing Web browsers."

Microsoft later confirmed the proposal, noting in a statement that if accepted, it would mark "a big step forward in addressing a decade of legal issues and would be good news for European consumers and our partners in the industry."

Market Watch

In other the folks in Europe will be able to choose if they want to use an alternative to the Internet Explorer browser. Brussels first began pushing Microsoft towards offering PC users a choice of internet browsers early this year, though the software company resisted the move, claiming it would hurt PC makers. The company published a proposal on Friday that would present all PC users who have Windows XP, Windows Vista or the forthcoming Windows 7 with a “ballot screen” offering them a choice of browsers, to be downloaded over the Internet.

Halarious lawsuit: Apple conspiring with the Mafia

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:
0

This is one of the best lawsuits that I have read in a while, George McKenna filed a 124 page complaint in District Court in Missouri against Apple and a group of other defendants and to me is one for the record books;

McKenna alleges that Apple conspired with the Italian Mafia to affix special receivers to an iPod shuffle he purchased on eBay and an iPod mini purchased in an Apple Store. These receivers were allegedly used by the Mafia to transmit threatening messages to the iPods.

Which simply goes to show that nothing should surprise us any more, should we then call this a frevilious lawsuit? Or, does it say to us that we can actually file a suit about anything we choose, what ever the case it makes for good blogging.

Installing Adobe Air on (x86_64) Ubuntu

I have finally gotten rid of windows all together and installed the 9.04 Ubuntu Linux on it, one program I used a lot (on windows) was Adobe Air and while surfing the web I ran into a lot of help guides from all over and I have the 64bit version. This quick help guide over at how to forge has put me finally on the right track and following the directions to the letter I finally got my tweet deck working on Linux, the 64bit poses a little problems or it did for me looking around for the right things I need and I ended up downloading the VLC media player for my media purposes this thing will handle about any thing you can throw at it. Just download it from the synaptic pacage manager, but to get it working great you will need to add a few more things, to much of a novice to start going over all that right now,lol, anyway getting back to the Adobe AIR, if you have the 64bit follow these instructions to the letter;

Apparently to deter the would be crooks Absa Bank one of the African's largest financial institution has installed cameras and pepper spray canisters on 11 of it's machines in the Cape. You might be saying to yourself what if this thing malfunctions? And it did exactly that;

Recently, the plan was theoretically executed to perfection in the town of Fish Hoek, but the recipients of the pepper spray burst were innocent maintenance workers instead of attempted thieves. The repairmen had to seek immediate medical attention.

I mean think about it,,anything could happen to cause these things to malfunction and seriously injure someone whether it be a maintenance worker or just a customer making a with drawel and would not count on a visit to the emergency room.

Lori Schneider scales Everest despite MS

She first had dreamed of climbing Everest at the age of 16 but a diagnosis in 1999 seemed to put a damper on her dream,

Ms Schneider first noticed something was wrong when she woke up one morning with numbness in the leg and arm on one side of her body.

Lori Schneider on Everest
I think the real hardship on Everest is maintaining a positive attitude for two months
Lori Schneider

The condition progressed to the side of her face, and eventually both sides of her body.

Three years ago Lori bested the highest peak in North America Mt. McKinley. The financial burden was high though to climb Everest she used up all her savings sold her home and took out a loan, Lori said the hardship of climbing Everest was maintaining a positive attitude for 2 months.

In achieving her goal, she has joined some of the world's most accomplished climbers and bested many others.

"It was very surreal, you couldn't see anything [because of the blizzard], so I couldn't see the beauty that surrounded me."

"We had to rush down so fast, but I did get a chance to give my father a call and yell: 'I made it, I made it'."

"It wasn't until the next morning when I woke up in my tent after climbing for 17 hours the day before, and then all of the sudden I thought: 'Oh my gosh, I just climbed Mt Everest yesterday!'."

I really enjoyed reading Lori's story because despite a bad diagnosis she has accomplised her dream of ascending Everest good job Lori.

Great looking template called LightWord

Posted: 7/09/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

Great looking template called LightWord from Deluxe Templates, this one is simple and light very nice and minimalistic well worth checking this out, the top bar or navigation bar I changed a little, when I added more links they dropped down under the ones there so I made the bar a little longer and in the code located somewhere above this this tag; </b:skin> where you find this code;

#front_menu {
float:left;
left:-616px;
overflow:hidden;
position:relative;
text-transform:uppercase;
top:0;
width:248px;
}

I simply made the width in mine to read 400 px so mine looks like this;

#front_menu {
float:left;
left:-616px;
overflow:hidden;
position:relative;
text-transform:uppercase;
top:0;
width:400px;
}

This allowed me more links to line up there, great looking template.

Palin: My whining is different than Hillary Clinton's

Posted: 7/08/2009 by Floyd in Labels:

What a glorious article from think progress where Palin tries to put into perspective her whining versus Hillary Clinton;

What I said was, it doesn’t do her or anybody else any good to whine about the criticism. And that’s why I’m trying to make it clear that the criticism, I invite that. But freedom of speech and that invitation to constructively criticize a public servant is a lot different than the allowance to lie, to continually falsely accuse a public servant when they have proven over and over again that they have not done what the accuser is saying they did. It doesn’t cost them a dime to continue to accuse. That’s a whole different situation. But that’s why when I talk about the political potshots that I take or my family takes, we can handle that. I can handle that. I expect it. But there has to be opportunity provided for truth to get out there, and truth isn’t getting out there when the political game that’s being played right now is going to continue, and it is.

Managed to stop mission aborted in IE-8

So far mission aborted has stopped crashing, moved my Google tracking and scroll to the top of the body tag instead of the bottom of it, I did have it right above the
tag at the bottom but moved it under the
tag toward the top and seemed to get rid of mission aborted crash that was happening in IE on me. So far seems to be working as of now but hey with IE that is subject to change at any moment. I would not bother with it but a lot of people are using the IE browser since Microsoft places it on every one's computer and there are a lot that don't go to the trouble of downloading a browser like FireFox that don't have problems like this or at least in my dealings with them they haven't.

This article will tell you the story of Rodi Alvarado from Guatemala and the plight and suffrage from her husband and the endless bureaucracy of the handling of the situation by the government of passing the buck from one to another, the U.S has no provisions that cover victims of domestic violence. It is a story that we all need to read and take a look at the endless red tape this woman was put through and the big excuse really is allowing this would open some loop-hole of an influx of cases claiming asylum in the U.S because of domestic violence, and this possibly could be some truth but some kind of play book should be drawn up or someone should react to this kind of treatment I read about in this public record article and I know that this would be one of the worst cases but at what point does an agency act on this and not pass the buck to someone else?

Just downloaded the 3.5 version and it seems to perform better than it's predecessors before it having said this, go and download for yourself and surf with the new Fox very quick and responsive and the reason I prefer Firefox so much is because of it's add-ons. Flock browser has a lot of good features to it but Firefox has the most add-ons I surf with Flock sometimes because it is so integrated with the social networks but no browser can compete the many Firefox add-ons and that works best for me.
Download the new Firefox 3.5

This girl is now in college but I hope she sues the school for all it's worth and judge Thomas in his dissent well that is another story in other words he comes to the conclusion that probably the prescription drugs (ibuprofen) were secretly hid by the girl somewhere else. All of this occurred over what amounts to a couple of Advil, the girl was stripped searched by the school apparently because of an anonymous tip. In an 8-1 ruling, the justices said school officials violated the law with their search of Savana Redding in the rural eastern Arizona town of Safford.

After removing the piece of code that frames my blog scream widget so far I have not gotten an error, knock on wood I mean everything is subject to change right? But as of now it is working o.k and goes to the comment page without the mission aborted and crash of IE-8. Here is the code I remove;

}

iframe#ifrm {

I have been asked in comments to other articles, but also in person, whether it is possible to restore Firefox default settings: if you have tweaked your about:config page to speed your browser up, or simply installed an add-on that messed up your configuration, Firefox 3 has a simple method to restore all default settings back without uninstalling the software.

June 17th was Mom's 86th birthday and she enjoyed it

Well usually I do not add any personal blogs but on this occasion I figured I would blog about my Mom's 86th birthday it was yesterday and she has been in the nursing home for about three months now, she actually went in back in March of this year. We ended up getting her an ice cream cake and she could not eat very much due to the fact that she is a diabetic, I got her a balloon and beef roast, peas and cornbread (this is some of her favorite foods) she really enjoyed the meal for a change because lately she has just had hardly any appetite to eat anything.

On average I see her almost on a daily basis, because for a number one reason being one has to watch them a little closely at the nursing home uh, not to throw off on all nursing homes but they do vary from one to another I guess after an initial disagreement the nursing home seems to be more or less doing it's job and Mom seems to be doing as well as expected there. She seemed to enjoy the little party put on for her by me and my girlfriend and was in a festive and enjoyable mood and sometimes her mood anymore is one way one minute and another the next, but I was really glad that this time it was almost consistent.

I am glad that I have learned some time ago not to take anything for granted and while our parents are with us help and do for them what we can, because they have done so much for us and I know from losing my Father that when they are gone it leaves a mighty big space in one's heart and I was real glad to see her enjoying herself and in a good mood it really made her happy, even though, she had told me a few days prior not to do anything for her birthday. So if any reading this have an elderly parent or grand-parent do something on those days whether it be a birthday or other, you won't regret it.

High-Altitude Winds Hold Sky-High Promise for Meeting Electricity Needs : CleanTechnica

This seems to be a promising adventure but to be able to actually do it seems another matter entirely, reading this article from clean technica about the high altitude winds but getting those and being able to make this work could be problematic but I would hope they keep trying and maybe come up with some workable plan, it could benefit the environment and go a long way in making us a more cleaner and efficient world.

Excerpt;

You’ve heard of commercial wind turbines in farm fields, offshore turbines on the water, even small wind turbines on the rooftops of homes, but high-altitude winds are also being studied as a potential energy source.

The first-ever study of high-altitude winds by the Carnegie Institution and California State University says winds in the jet stream, about 30,000 feet up, would be the ideal source to exploit. And the sky over New York is a prime spot, along with population centers in the eastern United States and East Asia.

This is an awesome looking template called blue diamond, comes with 27 images that you upload and host yourself and this takes a little longer to set up but it is worth the effort.

Comes with a featured content or featured post at the top and at this time I have not got it set up but the directions are pretty straight forward, I will try and get time so you can see how this works, you see it in this photo of how it would look.

Kind of a neat feature if you have a special post you want to keep on your main page at all times and it appears at the top of the page also where your readers would have good access to it.

So if you are looking for something a little different and sharp looking at that then blue diamond just might foot your bill, this one goes in the fav column, even though the read more link is inserted into every post I still like this one a lot and the link can be removed easy enough but on the other hand it will take you to the comment page if you have the comments embeded below post so I guess that is easy access also, enjoy.; (tested in Firefox and Internet Explorer-8)

This theme is different and unique, it is called puppet from deluxe templates, I like this one because the color is nice and easy on the eyes and because it is different. It is different than the other themes I have tried out lately and I put this one in the fav category for sure, check this one out you can't go wrong with it.

Set-up is pretty easy, it has the contact and home buttons and the about and FAQ buttons arranged in a very unique manner, I have not got the contact button set up right yet but it is probably something on my end causing this, very unique and different blog template.

Three youngsters stomp fawn to death

A dog walker has spoken of the horror of witnessing three youths stamp a new born deer to death in a park in Dorset.

Keith Arthurs was walking his dog in Upton Country Park, near Poole, when he saw three teenage boys wearing hoods attack the fawn on Wednesday night.

He did not intervene for fear of being injured. The RSPCA collected the body and took it to Lynwood Vets in Wareham.

Police are appealing for the public's help in finding the boys. Mr Arthurs said: "I was disgusted and horrified."

He added: "One of them hit the fawn across his head.

"Then they dropped it on the floor and they all took turns stamping on it.

Every time I read something like this it just disgusts me, I don't know these people but it would seem to me that maybe their parents should have given them a little more decepline than this and it goes to show just how much they would do to a human being and I don't blame the wittness for not confronting them I mean people like this would not have cared to give him the same treatment, watch the video after the jump;
