Miranda IM - Home of the Miranda IM client. Small but packs a punch

Posted: 12/28/2008 by Floyd in Labels:

Want a small lightweight program to talk to all your friends in? Ever looked at Miranda? It is a small program where you can do this< I think you can in Trillion also but this little thing also works great and hardly uses any kind of resources I been using about two weeks now with no problems with it so far I can talk to my friends in Yahoo and at the same time talk to others in AIM.

Miranda includes support for AIM, Jabber, ICQ, IRC, MSN, Yahoo, Gadu-Gadu and more. Additionally, with the choice of hundreds of plugins, icons, sounds and other content, Miranda IM gives you the ability to modify, customize and extend functionality to make it your own.

Take Ownership Explorer Right Click Menu In Vista

Posted: 12/26/2008 by Floyd in Labels: ,

This is a little zip that modifies the registry, ever try to get rid of a file in vista and not be able to you get this thing about no permission even if you are running as administrator? I had a problem with Adobe anyway ended up with two of them on this machine and try to delete it and this was not showing up in the uninstall programs either I was able to uninstall one of them but the other lagged and insisted on staying, so I began the task of trying to delete it, no dice, so I booted up in safe mode and try to get rid of it, still no dice.

Finally I goggled for an answer and came up with many including the safe mode which I had already tried to no avail and much frustration when I was ready almost of trying different things of getting rid of this I ran into this site and ran this reg file that  that allows a take ownership of the file just using a right click on it, now always be careful when doing this reg change all I am saying is I did it and no ill affects as of yet, anyway I right clicked the insist on staying Adobe and took ownership and puff I got rid of it.

Just extract the zip file to a folder and double click it and follow the prompts it also has a undo reg with it to however I don't think I will ever undo it, take ownership of the files on your computer and if the file is dug into your machine refusing to leave tear it loose with this feature. I left the file in the waste basket and will not get rid of it entirely for a while to see if any affects comes of it, Happy New Year everyone and cheers.

Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Vista :: the How-To Geek

This free one I tried out, converted mp-3 to wav to burn audio CD, there is quite a few out there I have tried some of them but this one worked well for me. It will accept up to 25 files at one time, came out very good for me clear and no noise that is good, after this conversion when I dragged the files to media player to burn it showed error, on each one I clicked burn little window came up about skip and I did not skip just click cancel and the little error went away, untill I got the cd filled then burn kick in by itself and burned to cd. I am using Memorex Black CD-R, so I did get problems from media player but the bottom line is it finally worked, this free converter worked good for me.

EnhanceIE.com - Internet Explorer Tweaks,Hide the IE search Bar

Posted: 12/21/2008 by Floyd in Labels: ,

Did you ever want to hide that search bar on IE-7? It will be on IE-8 also, maybe you wanted to dowwnload the Google toolbar like I did or Yahoo toolbar and you don't want that other one up on the right cluttering up things, sure looks better on mine without it, you can manually go into the registry and hide the thing or download this little registry add and let it do it for you. On this page right down below the UI Tweaks you will see a hide IE-7's search box, download it along with the link next to it says undo, in case you want to undo it and make it reappear,  in Vista open up the little hide IE7's search box and click run, the other infamous pop-up will come up and click continue that's it.

I have tried this myself and it worked, but try it at your risk you know how I am at trying things that should work all I'm saying is it worked for me without a hitch and now my vista IE-7 looks great with just my Google toolbar there and the other little one out of the way, I prefer the downloaded Google toolbar with it's feature's than the little multi-bar, here is my screen shot of it; see no little toolbar in the way;

The USB Gas Stove Cup Warmer » Coolest Gadgets

O.K here is the gadget use your own computer to keep your coffee warm or I suppose tea or cocoa or whatever hot beverage you have on your mind, this could prove to be a very useflul little gadget if you are on the web as much as I am;
One of the most obnoxious things is when you finally decide to take a break from work to make a cup of coffee or tea. Then after you’ve brought back the steaming cup, you get wrapped up in work again and inevitably it gets cold. You don’t want to get back up to heat it, either because you’re busy or are just too lazy. Which is when a cup warmer comes in very handy. This isn’t the first cup warmer to be sold, but this one offers a retro design. That at least gives it a little more edge above the competition.

Serious flaw in Internet Explorer not fixed yet - Yahoo! News

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

Every time I turn around I am hearing something about Internet Explorer and how subject to attacks it is this is no surprise to me really;
SAN FRANCISCO – Users of all current versions of Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer browser might be vulnerable to having their computers hijacked because of a serious security hole in the software that had yet to be fixed Monday.
The flaw lets criminals commandeer victims' machines merely by tricking them into visiting Web sites tainted with malicious programming code. As many as 10,000 sites have been compromised since last week to exploit the browser flaw, according to antivirus software maker Trend Micro Inc.
The sites are mostly Chinese and have been serving up programs that steal passwords for computer games, which can be sold for money on the black market. However, the hole is such that it could be "adopted by more financially motivated criminals for more serious mayhem — that's a big fear right now," Paul Ferguson, a Trend Micro security researcher, said Monday.

Man Throws Two Shoes at Bush in Iraq

Posted: 12/14/2008 by Floyd in Labels:

BAGHDAD (Dec. 14) - On an Iraq trip shrouded in secrecy and marred by dissent, President George W. Bush on Sunday hailed progress in the war that defines his presidency and got a size-10 reminder of his unpopularity when a man hurled two shoes at him during a news conference.

Bush joked himself about it later by saying it was a size 10, someone could have gotten hurt from this but watch the video, the man was kind of upset he shouted; "This is a farewell kiss, you dog!"

Autumn, originally uploaded by MikeJonesPhoto.
This photo has some glorious color, like gold growing on trees, this is simply a great picture, adding it to my blog photo collection.

I added a little more to the head line as to what it should read, as I surf along the Internet I am greeted by some who think the UAW well it has just done to much for it's workers and even some article's comparing the workers salary to corporate salary, people this is all smoke and mirror's and is simply put a bunch of hog wash.

Let me continue a little further and I will give you an excerpt of this article, basically the plan was voted down and to further elaborate this is monies already allocated for re-tooling and a small diff was made up as far as I can tell for a loan to be paid back. If or when this industry collapses it is not going to be pretty and all funky dare as you have heard there are hundreds of thousands of jobs tied to the auto industry and most employing anywhere from 100 to 200 people, I am talking about the regular grunts now, I worked myself close to 21 years with a company tied to GM so I know what I'm talking here.

How many of these companies are going to go bankrupt? How many of these are going to survive this? It is a good question, the Republicans see for their part a way to try and break the UAW and they don't care how many folks they have to starve to do it.

Let's look at reality the only reason Toyota is paying it's workers a decent wage is because of the UAW, take the UAW out of the equation and see if that bubble goes down a little then.

“The consequences of the Senate Republican’ failure to act could be devastating to our economy, detrimental to workers, and destructive to the American automobile industry unless the President immediately directs Secretary Paulson to explore other short-term financial assistance options. Senator George V. Voinovich, Republican of Ohio, and a supporter of the auto rescue efforts, said: “I think it might be time for the president to step in.”

New computer, trying to tweak it a little

Posted: 12/06/2008 by Floyd in Labels:

Got this new computer and have not been able to blog much,I have been trying it out so to speak and see what I can do without right from the start I deleted Norton, and the 60 day trial of Microsoft Office. Why you need Microsoft Office when there is Open Office Dot Org,and I can make PDF with this one not to mention a lot of other things and it is free and to me does what Office does.

Here is the computer I ended up getting it is another HP, my old Pavilion has done such a good job figure I would stay with the product, this one is so quient I don't even know it is on except to see the light, that is how quiet this unit runs. First thing I did was get rid of that annoying clicking sound from IE, in Vista,,click on start and then control panel, in control panel click on Hardware and Sound, then go to the heading of sound and click on change system sounds, go to windows explorer and set the complete navigation to none and make sure the start navagation is set to none apply and ok and no more annoying clicking sound.

I have been reading a lot of good article's on the web about what I can disable or get rid of from starting up and have been working on this, everything seems to be working fine so far no problems. Really surprises me in a way no disaster as of yet, another first thing i have done of course is to download firefox web browser, because I can't do without all the add-ons I can get with it not to mention I think it is more secure.

One of the quickest little themes for firefox vista; Whitehart Theme
Also as promised at the bottom of this page see the photostream that is incorporated into this theme I put some photo's on flikr and linked to the stream,every blog template should have this feature.

Blogger Buster: Free Blogger Template: Halo 01 (Minimalist, grid based design)

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

This is the current template I am using at this time, and it is one of my favorites it comes from blogger buster and at the bottom it has a configurable add-on where you can use your own flickr photostream in the box, I will get pics on there later but you get the idea. I also think it kinda neat how the post information is to the side of the post has a top navigation bar and the little icon where you see the U.S flag can also be changed to what ever you want.
