On-line Medical Records

A lot of companies are now offering us on-line personal medical records, it sounds like a good idea but on examining it further it could prove to be dangerous because of the hackers out there. By reading the USA Today article we can find that there are no laws to stop companies from data-mining that information, no control at all over personal health information in electronic form.

Congress apparently are in the early stages of legislation that deal with electronic records, and if it could be made safe it would much simplify our lives to be able to have our information located all in one place, but for me I will bow out of this one until better safeguards are put in place.

Unlike the medical record controlled by a doctor, a Personal Health Record (PHR) is controlled by the individual who has created it and it contains information from multiple sources including various doctors, laboratories, and pharmacies. In addition a PHR should contain relevant data added by its owner such as Allergy History, Family History, and Social History. It is for this reason that a PHR is typically more comprehensive than the medical record managed by any one doctor.

Thanks for the in put Adam, it sounds very good indeed but I am afraid I guess of the hackers out there, but, if there is a failsafe plan in place to protect us it would be very useful.

Electronic Health Records allows patient to provide doctors with valuable health information that can help improve the quality of care that patient receives. Electronic Health Records can help to reduce or eliminate duplicate tests and allow you to receive faster, safer treatment and care in an emergency and helps to play a more active role in yours and your loved ones’ healthcare.

What can I say dhana? I agree with you 100% on just that, what worries me is that they have adequate protection against any malicious intentions out there and if they do have all the securities in place it could help millions of people out especially if they are unable to speak, the doctors could go on line and check for allergies to medications among other things. Thanks for coming over and reading I would enjoy you visiting often and feel free to comment without commenting we don't know how one thinks about issues, cheers,,floyd.
