Senate Hands Down a Major Defeat on Immigration Bill - washingtonpost.com

When it was all said and done the immigration bill lay shattered on the Senate floor this morning, Mitch McConnell voted with Bunning of Kentucky to help kill the bill. The so called grand compromise which was opposed by the right and labor Unions on the left joined forces this morning to kill the bill and nothing will not come up from it again until 2008 or later. I never thought I would be thanking Mitch but I would like to take the time to thank him for coming around to listening to his constituents and putting corporate greed on the back burner and for listening to the people. This bill was pieced together by a bunch of so called 'grand compromises' and succeeded in alienating the right along with the left, but in the end the right and the left joined in defeating these whiners. Now will they finally enforce the laws that now exist? Probably not but this morning the phones were out of order due to the massive calls on this bill, whether or not they now will enforce the law remains to be seen.
In Mitch's words; The measure ``wasn't the people's will,'' McConnell said. ``And they were heard.''

Another employee's butchered benefits - Los Angeles Times

This is a story of a man living in Los Angeles with his small son who is only 3 years old, Tony Mays is in a situation like many other Americans are in today and that is the problems that arise concerning health care in this country. The powers that be seemed UN-attached to the dying middle-class and while they wrestle and wrangle in Washington trying to find a 'grand compromise' and basically wasting their time and our money on a bill that we don't need they have lost touch with American needs and put the working class of this country on the back burner. Tony is a single parent and pays $775 a month for his apartment, he has been working close to 2 years for a super-market chain, a more decent apartment would run him about $1,100 a month but, he was told that he would have to clear 3 times that amount to qualify, his son will not qualify for insurance benefits until he has been on his job for 30 months, the company he works for has great profits and the scenario is somewhat like the Wal-Mart chain in which huge profits are made by sub-standard health benefits while the companies take the money to the bank. Who is picking up most of the tab? The American taxpayer of course and in Tony's situation the prior contract he is working under is responsible for his demise, a new strike is looming to which Tony is not ready for but what choice does he have? There are a lot of chains in America getting rich from the hard work of others who are barely above the poverty level, whether it is Vons or Wal-Mart it is all of us who pay in the end.

Afghanistan; Opium capital of the world

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

I wrote an article back in November last year concerning this opium problem in Afghanistan and it looks like the problem is still relevant and not going away anytime soon. This article deals with the large increase last year on the Afghan poppy harvest, an increase is also expected this year. Afghanistan contributes to 92% of the global opium production and 12% of Afghanistan's population is involved in opium production. The United States had a proposal to spray the crop, but that proposal was vetoed by the Afghan president. Another theory is that somehow if we deprive them from growing all this opium without providing a means of self supporting jobs or agriculture then that could turn a lot of the insurgency on us, this big opium trade is also pumping money into the hands of terrorist groups, the bottom line is this; Afghanistan is not going very well at all and nothing seems to be depleting this opium trade. The opium cultivation has been steadily increasing for about the last seven years in Afghanistan and now the producers are out producing whole countries, and a lot of this money gets funneled back to the Taliban who are now trying to control key areas of the south, on the 19th of June of this year more than one hundred people died over a three day period as the Taliban launched raids on police posts in a district in southern Afghanistan.

GOP senator says Iraq plan not working - Yahoo! News

Senator Lugar a stanch conservative wavering on Iraq, stunned me with this statement; "In my judgment, the costs and risks of continuing down the current path outweigh the potential benefits that might be achieved," Lugar, R-Ind., said in a Senate floor speech. "Persisting indefinitely with the surge strategy will delay policy adjustments that have a better chance of protecting our vital interests over the long term."
By Senator Lugar speaking up will open the door for other conservatives to issue direct statements concerning the Bush policies of the war, there have been so far very few that have stood up and called this war for what it is. Senator Lugar is one of the high ranking conservatives and the war is not getting to many jumping on it's band-wagon in Indiana, considering of how it has been run up to this point.

Immigration/the fight continues

Many states have started passing new laws concerning illegal immigrants and it seems to be taking on a task that the Federal Government has been stagnant on, a lot of the lawmakers have become sniveling blathering idiots when it comes to taking on immigration. Some states have cracked down on public assistance for illegals and making it mandatory for officers who come in contact with them to ask they provide papers stating their legality in the country, most Republicans (unless they are in the lobby's back pocket) and some Democrats (unless they are in the lobby's pocket) oppose the currant legislation being resurrected back up into the Senate and pray tell a lot of us have actually e-mailed our representatives in the Senate both Republican and Democrat. So where does that leave us? Well it leaves us with a vote to voice our opinion, now a lot of these whining ones are not up for election for four more years and I hope that we will not forget their stand. This is not the time to quit this push for America.
P.S- Don't forget to e-mail your local Senator.

The war in Iraq will not cease to haunt us long after we have left there, many veteran's have become wounded and are increasing in numbers daily. Loss of limbs, brain damage, post-traumatic stress disorder to name but a few, estimates for care have been ranging from $250 billion to $650 billion and one estimate I saw was over a ten year period it could reach in the trillions.

Of the troops being evaluated 20% return to duty while 80% return to the US for more care or disability discharge,

another strain on the troops that's worth mentioning is the extended tours of duty I think now up to 15 months however, the longer this thing drags out I think that the number could be increased as the article via Kansas explains, and this greatly would add to the stress factor of the soldiers. In other words if we left Iraq today it could cost into the trillions of treatment and care of our wounded, the longer we stay the more the figure will increase. The figure above seems large but the Iraq Study Group came up with a much larger figure based on a 10 year span, this war is showing us far more instances of brain trauma and PSTD related injuries, these are scars that last a lifetime.
This Congressman represents President Bush's home district in Texas, he is speaking up on his opinions on how veteran's are being treated Rep. Chet Edwards,;" the administration and Republicans put a higher priority on tax cuts than on veterans' health care". The affairs bill passed the house last week by a 409/2 margin, the President had threatened a veto but backed down after it was clear Congress would override that veto. It seems after the reckless spending of the 109th Congress all of a sudden the White House is threatening veto's apparently to keep spending under control? The bill has allowed for 1,100 case workers to also process benefit claims by veteran's, apparently this never found good favor with the press either.

Stop Abortion; Deny Contraceptives

How these people are tying abortion and contraception is beyond me? From the way I'm reading this it concerns contraception aid to groups overseas that apparently offer abortions. So let me get this straight, we deny them contraceptives to prevent abortion? Abortion is allowed in the US, should we stop selling contraceptives here? When you look at the prerogatives and intentions of some of these so called lawmakers in Washington I don't see how an educated American could vote these broad thinkers into office? This would stop unintended pregnancies,? Or, maybe I got it all wrong? Think about it next time you vote.

Deport missing soldiers wife? Unbelievable

Here is one hard to believe and it concerns the wife of Spec. Alex Jimenez, who is from the Dominican Republic, Jimenez has been missing since May 12, Jimenez had petitioned for a green card for his wife, Yaderlin whom he married in 2004. "It just strikes me as unbelievably inappropriate and indecent for the wife of a current, second-tour Purple Heart winner who is now missing in action to be living under this kind of cloud," Kerry said in a conference call with reporters. *Thank you John Kerry.*
The couple's attorney, Matthew Kolken, said Yaderlin illegally entered the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2001. He said he is worried that if Jimenez does not make it back from Iraq, his wife could face deportation proceedings at a later date.
Apparently this is not going to happen, what boils me is why it ever happened? The powers that be are pushing to allow millions of illegals to become citizens and how we got from that to trying or even thinking about deporting a wife of one of our military (who happens to be a POW as we speak) who are fighting and dying in Iraq is beyond me? I'm speechless you decide.

Daily Kos: Veto III

BarbinMD says it pretty well with this third veto about 70% of the Americans got a kick in the teeth, plus, any kind of research or science in trying to find cures in the American health industry just got set back again based on ideology. In other words we had rather destroy these embryos than see any kind of cure that may help thousands of Americans occur, this is what America needs to know and that is this; the embryos are going to be destroyed anyway so it is best to destroy them than to see Americans that could be helped by the research.
Daily Kos: Veto III

Sixty percent of infertility patients with frozen embryos queried in the newly published survey said they would be willing to donate their unused embryos for stem cell research, however only about 22% would donate them for other couple pregnancy. The administration and their cronies would rather they be destroyed, this is a poll on the couples themselves the national poll is about the same maybe a little higher, but the decider knows more than the majority knows, we are nothing more than ropes on the good year blimp, a speck in the shadow of his greatness. Stem Cells can be used to find possible cures to many diseases not only one but to put this in perspective would be similar to saying instead of penicillin use the molded bread,

basically what they are saying is this; we had rather throw these things in the garbage than for them to be used to find a cure for a disease.

The point is they are going to destroy them anyway, once you read article's and there are tons out there then you realize just how dumb this veto is. This is critical information that is eliminated from most of television news and the majority of Americans have caught on to it, this is stem cells that are going to be destroyed so should not it make sense that they be used to help Americans? Sooner or later you will have some nut to say, well I don't think it is right to donate that heart or that kidney, it would be much better to bury it with the body. The majority always speaks but the politicians just aren't listening.

China takes on the number one spot on the biggest polluters of the earth while the US fell to the number two spot, so you have number one and number two, China and the USA sharing the top of the polluting heap and neither one wants to do anything about. China burning coal like there ain't no tomorrow took a lot of doing but settled into the number one spot rather well with an attitude like the Bush administration, 'so we pollute a little, leave it for the grand kids to figure out.' and don't tell me we could not influence China a little, take a look at all the imports we get from them, everything from transistors to the clothes on our backs.

This sounds like a heck of a car I found posted over at the Google Blog, being a concerned citizen and an environmentalist at heart my eyes perked up when I started reading this post. This car would do great on around town drives and I would like to see even more in the works for these, but from what I have heard they are a bit pricey. The addition of more batteries and the prospect of bio fuels and the use of electricity/gasoline to extend driving range is also encouraging. The car is not a bad looking car either, according to the post most of us drive approx. 35 miles a day and at that rate we could drive mostly on electricity, sounds good, sounds good we could just pass up the pump and look at oil just being held over our heads like a guillotine. It seems that our development of anything related to helping us out in the log-run of helping save our environment and helping save us money is always followed by the big interests and I will further venture to say that our fight for more fuel and energy Independence will only be met by more bureaucracy. Whatever they may call it most of it stems from the greedy oil companies ready to reap another record breaking year off of the consumers, apparently the oil companies have tied some bill in Congress to their excuse for not building more refineries. In reality the refineries and 'big oil' are to blame for their record profits from working Americans who have to drive everyday to work, and even if they charged five or six bucks a gallon America would still have to pay the price because we must get to work, you see we are in a 'catch 22' situation between big oil and an administration who seems powerless to do anything about it, I will give the benefit of a doubt though but lets look at it like this; If Congress the Senate and the Administration would start a push on the oil companies instead of ramming more of this UN-enforceable immigration legislation down our throats, maybe, just maybe, the working American people might be able to obtain some relief from this onslaught, and no matter how you cut it the link to the New York Times says it all, the rich get richer while the middle-class get the shaft.

Hamas Heading Toward Victory

Posted: 6/14/2007 by Floyd in Labels: ,

It now looks as if Hamas will gain a victory in Gaza as the fighting is going on fiercely, Hamas has won the Palestinian legislative elections but the best hope to win a peace accord with Israel seemed to be President Mahmoud Abbas and the United States put out millions of dollars supposedly for training security forces that were loyal to Abbas. By Wednesday hundreds of these forces had either run out of ammunition or had been forced in surrender, this article also states that the Israeli's refused to help Abbas basically because they did not want to see their own arms in the hands of Hamas. Back in February of this year Secretary Rice talked with Abbas about the peace accord with Israel, she was referring to the two-state solution in which there would be two separate states in western Palestine one Jewish and the other Arab. Currently, the common approach by many Palestinian supporters is to advocate an end to the occupation. These activists argue that if Israel were to withdraw from the West Bank, a two-state solution would automatically be created and peace would ensue. Israel did withdraw from the entire Gaza Strip back in 2005, but it did not lead to peace, there were rocket attacks against Israel and the election of Hamas to head up the Palestinian Authority was the icing on the cake so to speak, A true two-state solution will only come when the legitimacy of both parties' rights is fully recognized and that for the Israelis and Palestinians to come up with a manageable peace accord that satisfies both parties, and refusing that Israel has a right to exist just don't cut it as being on any road remotely associated with any kind of peace accord.

My friend Carol over at My View of "It" has tagged me as a thinking blogger, I am grateful since I also feel Carol to be one of the great thinkers out there others I consider to be great thinkers are many so I will tag the following few;

1)Dark Wraith and especially from his post on Statistical Trends In The American/Iraqi War This post puts in perspective the actual statistics of the war, with Dark Wraith it is hard to pick out one of his posts because all his work is well written and informative, the Dark Wraith will take you inside the art of reason and exercise your mind.

2)Article Discovery Politics for his post entitled Conversation with American Iraq War contractor, gives us insight in the contractors that are involved in Iraq from his interview in Thailand. It brings us to light of insight from a contractors perspective and how Iraq is viewed from someone who was actually involved in the process.

3)Larry Sadler over at blogtalkingpoints2 for his great posts and speaking his mind, Larry is an ex-marine and I have full respect in his insight and candidness about the issues of our times, Larry always has things of interest in his posts.

4)Sally over at, Yeah, what of it blog. Sally always has interesting posts and her post Flat Earth Society makes us think of global warming, it leaves one to think how America needs to lead on the opening up of new technology and be a beacon to the world on global warming and start taking it a little more serious, the flat earth society is in relation to a group who does not believe in science,,,any science.

5)Minor Ripper for his video back in December winning the hearts and minds, minor ripper opens up the reality and sometimes the cruelty that occurs in war. It is an unbelievable video that will make you think no matter what political view you have, when I actually first saw this I reasoned with myself being an ex-military how things could happen of this nature, but,

This is a piece of legislation will not go quietly into the dark as Mr.Bush himself picks up the effort to resurrect basically the 'amnesty' bill that legalizes up to 12 million illegals, supporters of the bill says it tightens border security however we have not heard anything of a pardon for the two border guards who are still in prison for trying to protect our border. Talk and I do say 'talk and not action of reforming immigration' is back under way and the American people are the only ones who will end up paying. Well, now we are about to see if the Republicans will march in step to this bill which will end up costing the American citizen and labor unions in the long run. If you don't follow the immigration laws to begin with why in the world would you waste the people and the lawmakers time? I won't let the Democrats off the hook on this one either, they can't support organized labor and vote for this.

Water Crisis Hits Baghdad

Posted: by Floyd in Labels:

Another thing has been laid on the backs of the Iraqi people, in addition to the continuous bombings and killings a water shortage is taking place there. Already aliments such as diarrhea have started to spread south of Baghdad, this is a story that you probably will never hear out of the main-stream media and it adds to the suffering that is experienced there on a daily basis for over three weeks in a row the city has suffered power outages up to 23 hours a day, one can only imagine the stifling heat to endure under these conditions to be without even a fan in this kind of heat. The governing body are trying to provide power to keep the water-pumping stations operating, but, they don't know if they can come up with enough fuel to do this, and apparently part is due to the security measures put in place to protect bridges in and around Baghdad, fuel takers stop near the bridges and wait for hours to be inspected. The insurgents blew up a fuel line back in May that transfers fuel to Baghdad, and from the reports I've read they blow them often, apparently as has always been the case electricity and fuel pipelines have been sabotaged and as soon as they are fixed, the lines are targeted again. In light of this we can expect more disease and many will probably succumb to lack of water and the heat while the infrastructure of Iraq remains in shambles, a big part of that city the ones with enough money to leave have fled and continue to flee and millions of residents of Baghdad have become refugees in surrounding countries, the water crisis now just adds a little more pain to an already destitute people.

Border Security

The individual who flew on world flights recently has created a more open wound on how well we are guarding our borders since 9/11, and what a study found may shock you. Half of land crossers along the 4,000 mile border with Canada are not asked to present credential at all, in the study conducted it seems that in 2006 the testers got through on all 18 attempts and when the TB patient got through unscathed it opened the eyes of a lot of Americans and made them ask a lot of questions concerning just how equipped are we at being able to stop terrorists or anyone with a dangerous disease from entering the country?

Ralph Basham the commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection said that the effectiveness of the system was overshadowed by the failure to stop this one traveler.

The study shows us that the travelers breached the US border inspections 93% of the time.
What is just as much scary as this is to think how many are crossing the southern border? They walk across, climb across and dig tunnels across and in my opinion the borders are just as porous as they were before 9/11 and yet we have agendas to follow, but if we don't follow them then they are void the same as the immigration issue, we can't even protect our own borders. Now I realize that this will inconvenience travelers but it could stop a terrorist before he or she made to American soil, we have two border guards in prison right now for trying to stop a drug dealer from entering our country and nothing in a way of a pardon has ever been issued, what kind of message is that sending to our border guards? So when the talk comes around about securing our borders, remember my friends it is just talk, "A slogan for Washington."

Tensions rising on Iraq border

So far not much if any of this build-up by Turkish forces on the northern Iraq border has been mentioned and apparently Turkey has been shelling the region were the Kurds make up the most part of this part of Iraq, I myself think it is worth mentioning because when it comes to Iraq the Kurds are the only ones remotely friendly with our soldiers. According to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry the shelling had caused widespread damage in northern Iraq, apparently the Turkish ambassador has been asked to come to Iraq to discuss the matter. The dispute seems to have been brewing for a while now but the later article's on the web seem also to imply a more escalating tension there. The tensions seem to be due to the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK). In today's Zaman Rice has suggested that Washington has acknowledged that Turkey might conduct limited incursions against the PKK in northern Iraq, the PKK is listed by a lot of nations as being a terrorist group. This is more news leaking out suggesting the instability of the region, in one of the article's it states that the Iranian's could have also been involved with the shelling of northern Iraq.

Immigration Legislation? Nothing but B.S

12 Democrats and 1 Independent joined 38 Republicans to kill this worthless bill on the Senate floor, we can not enforce the immigration laws we have now, according to James G. Gimpel a professor at the University of Maryland was quoted as saying "People on opposite sides of the political spectrum, in affect, banded together to defeat the middle." Hey, you reckon that happened James? Thanks are also in order to organized labor who used as much as it could to sway some of those Democrats, the fact of the matter is that we are not enforcing anything on the lines of immigration that we have on the books now there is no use creating more paper work and destroying more trees writing this garbage down.

Another fact is the garbage that most of the media is putting out, every time some "I know more than thou" guest appears on these spin zones what is the first thing out of their mouths? wah, wah, the "illegals" are doing jobs citizens don't want, that is the biggest pack of B.S you will ever hear. The meat packing company where the round-up took place these were above average paying jobs. I myself have worked with illegals in the iron industry and the auto industry and we made a little more than 18 bucks an hour, so the next time you here this garbage on television you can bet nine times out of ten it's B.S but even so they keep shoving it down our throats every time we turn on the boob tube, you would get a lot more out of watching 'days of our lives' than watching some of these so called media outlets.

It was a true or false question and are you ready? 45% said not true, very close to the number that knew Edwards got an expensive haircut, almost or at least within 1% knew about Saddam's ghost weapons. This reflects a lot on the media which is becoming more and more like a soap opera.

I know you have heard over and over again how the Republicans want you to think and feel safer knowing they are in charge to protect you, however, the administration is standing on the verge of rolling back a major post 9/ll security initiative apparently because of the many complaints from American tourists. The bottom line is that they want to waive requirements of US passports traveling into Canada and Mexico, there seems to be a back-log of applications at the State Department. Homeland Security is concerned about terrorists being able to breach security in the wake of this, it seems Homeland Security is the only one who has voiced opposition to the plan.

Clinton Aide In The Spotlight

There is criticism of an aide to Mrs. Clinton, the aide Mark Penn has been labeled basically as a union buster and brings in question of Hillary's pro-worker and pro-union stand. The Teamsters even sent Clinton a letter addressing it. The complaint is that four years ago a drive to unionize the Cintas Corporation was helped by Burson-Marsteller in a vigorous effort to resist unionization, Penn has stated that he had no kind of involvement in this. I would say let the facts come out and also Mrs. Clinton should check into this, because it would be odd to have some union buster affiliated with her campaign. Of course a lot of her supporters would think nothing of this, but, I don't think it would look good to have this kind of thing to go further than this. If he had nothing to do with union busting that's fine, but if he did, show him the door. This is why I don't fit in to good with the Republican party who are always with the corporations and management and is never standing on the side of labor, this is what makes America great to be able to bargain in good faith for a decent wage and and medical for themselves and their families.

I agree with the upper 70 percentile of Americans, we need out of Iraq and lately it seems that these Dem's are the best hope to do this. I do lean toward Edwards but I will listen to all and see just who has the best plan to get things done, the number one thing is to pay attention to us Americans and I feel that this has really what hurt the GOP so badly, you can't go blindly always against the American public. The American people is who elected you to govern them, as I said before November I say again today when you lose the people you have become more or less a tinkling cymbal.

After watching the debate I don't see much changing in this run-down of Obama,Clinton and Edwards, I was a little surprised at how Hillary handled herself, she handled herself very well in this debate and impressed me as did Obama and Edwards. It was interesting how Wolf kept pressing on if the troops left would Iraq resort to genocide? Iraq right now is in a civil war, sectarian violence runs amok and bodies turn up daily. Our troops are caught in the middle of all this blood-letting and most of the American people believe that Iraq needs to solve it's problems from within not militarily but politically.

Firings of RNC phone solicitors were confirmed to have taken place about a week ago and apparently one excuse was that the phone equipment was outdated, but some of the fired employees gave 'mixed' reviews on the firings. One solicitors example in the article is that the total of the solicitations was down $64,000 dollars from last year, one leak pertaining to this article leads one to believe that 'amnesty for illegals may have been a big factor, but I think it might be deeper than this. For example; the Iraq war continues on mostly from the support of Republicans, the improvements in this endeavor seems to be declining and not improving with the last two months proving to be two of the most deadliest of the war, as military deaths topped 100 for two straight months, this I believe also plays a huge role in contributions by 'individual contributors.'
