Water Crisis Hits Baghdad

Another thing has been laid on the backs of the Iraqi people, in addition to the continuous bombings and killings a water shortage is taking place there. Already aliments such as diarrhea have started to spread south of Baghdad, this is a story that you probably will never hear out of the main-stream media and it adds to the suffering that is experienced there on a daily basis for over three weeks in a row the city has suffered power outages up to 23 hours a day, one can only imagine the stifling heat to endure under these conditions to be without even a fan in this kind of heat. The governing body are trying to provide power to keep the water-pumping stations operating, but, they don't know if they can come up with enough fuel to do this, and apparently part is due to the security measures put in place to protect bridges in and around Baghdad, fuel takers stop near the bridges and wait for hours to be inspected. The insurgents blew up a fuel line back in May that transfers fuel to Baghdad, and from the reports I've read they blow them often, apparently as has always been the case electricity and fuel pipelines have been sabotaged and as soon as they are fixed, the lines are targeted again. In light of this we can expect more disease and many will probably succumb to lack of water and the heat while the infrastructure of Iraq remains in shambles, a big part of that city the ones with enough money to leave have fled and continue to flee and millions of residents of Baghdad have become refugees in surrounding countries, the water crisis now just adds a little more pain to an already destitute people.
