Link to take a tour of IE 7-beta-2 you can tour the new features or download it for yourself,I have just downloaded it myself but at this time can not make an example,on bugs, however it does have tabbed browsing very similar to firefox. It seems to be a good browser so far but use at your own risk,it seems to be very stable and I like a lot of it's changes and it has made major changes from the previous version, check it out.
Internet Explorer 7: Tour of new features

Follow up on IE 7-beta-2,the new version of internet explorer I will stay with firefox because I have encountered some bugs with the new explorer, which they probably will work out at a later date,#1-when forcing it to open on a window it brings up firefox? #2-I found will trying to view newsburst the columns run together? The Icons are very small, but it leaves you with more

space,I like the feed item that you have which is you just click on a feed and it adds it. The tabbed browsing in which borrowed from firefox works good, but some security features slows down loading pages. There may be more bugs but did not run it for a long time, some have loaded it and ran for a few minutes and crashed, mine did not crash but I started firefox back up. If the bugs will be worked out it would be O.K. the icons are a little small for me though.
Follow up Febuary 9,2006= In blogger when I am writing a post I have to write in (Edit Html)for it to show what I am typing,I do not know if they will get a fix for this but it is annoying. Also it is not good with handeling html in other words, like in Firefox you simply high-light the html copy it from browser edit and paste where-ever you want too I have not been able to do this with IE-7,but it is still in the testing stage it has not crashed on me yet have been using it on and off for a couple of weeks now.So far the Groowe toolbar I downloaded has worked with it.

The treatment of heroes

Posted: by Floyd in
2

While skipping around the net today I have found a lot but one story caught me,well in back of my mind I thought it was so but finally it has come out in the press. This is the story of one of these heroes who came back from Iraq unable to walk and in this article he tells some of his dealings with the system, and how he was treated and also this is in no means an isolated event this happens to a great majority of our troops. He took a hit in Iraq that severed his spine and he took another hit from the way we or I should say the higher ups deal with these situtations,he said he felt as though he had been used. What seems always so ironic is after something like this comes out it is said,,oh we did not realize this was occuring we want to make it right. As I have stated earlier this not being an isolated event and has happened to numerous others who are serving our country and happen to get injured,or even worse killed. And when the story happens to get out in the mainstream media the where are the ones who are supposed to be watching and seeing what is going on in the ranks of our soldiers who are wounded for our country? Not only did this military veteran pay the price and very high it was,but his family suffered also by dealing with the system. Do we uphold our heroes or do we after they get injured throw them to the wolves?

Tonight is our state of the union address and wondering if the body armor issue will come up? I hope that it does because it is a serious issue and offers protection to our troops,as the pentagon study has already showed that soldiers could have been saved through this armor. Today in the paper I read that the savings in america is in the negative, first time since 1932 or to say during the depression the paper down played it but think the first time since the great depression the savings of americans are depleted. The prices on durable goods have been on the increase we do not need a study to show us this we can go down to our local Wal-Mart or Lowe's to see for ourselves, also the price of gas hovering still over $2 a gallon the price of a sack of potatos now at almost five bucks or over. The cost of war in Iraq has skyrocketed and do not see any end soon,
our troops dying daily and needing body armor to help them stay alive,it seems Iraq is painting a dark picture indeed and it seems that we should come up with some exit strategy to get the heck out of there,I keep hearing they are training the Iraqis to take over but all it is,it is just talk we need action and less talk we need a clear plan to go by Iraq and we need a clear exit to get out of there.

Public unaware?

Well here we go I have to post something on this and what it is concerning is the media coverage of our soldiers who die in Iraq. On Larry King tonight a panel was discussing the journalist who was injured by a road-side bomb in Iraq,Bob Woodruff and his camera man were both seriously injured but are in stable condition at this time in Germany. A caller called in and I am not going to say from what state she was from because it is unimportant at this time and would like to touch on the matter at hand, caller=why does not the media show more about the american soldiers who are wounded or killed in Iraq?,and basically the soldiers also should get media attention, she further elaberated on the King doing a great job on fighting terrorism there. The panel then informed her the soldiers do not get this attention because the media are "banned by the U.S government to do so,they further enlightened the public that they are not allowed to show the coffins, burials, funerals etc, etc. Now this happened to the media as everyone should know very early on in this mess, but just think how ill-informed the public is on a simple thing the government has done such as this. Now let me give you my take on this if I may,if it upsets the family to show these pictures I would go along with that fully but not for this kind of control even over the media of this country by the government, like the caller that was unaware of this and wondering why she did not see more coverage of this in the mainstream media,I would wonder how many more americans are out of the loop? Do we just go and blindly cast a vote for whoever and wake up one day and some news reporter has to tell us how our country is being run? One day america will wake up and some caller will call one of these talk shows about let us say getting an abortion, and will be informed that became illegal two years ago,you know what I think is everyone should start blogging maybe then they can become more informed of what is going on,,WAKE UP AMERICA AND BECOME AWARE OF WHAT'S GOING ON.

I call this link a little news for the middle class,$343 million in funding for foster care programs cut, over $12 billion was cut from federal college loan programs oh yeah cut $1.5 billion over the next five years for funding for child support enforcement programs? The joint committee on taxation has estimated that over the next 13 years these tax breaks for the wealthy will deprive the country of $197 billion in revenue. What gets me is these Repugs can still look you straight in the face and tell you they are looking out for your interests, well it makes you wonder just whose interest are they really looking out for?

Bring it On! Blog Archive Fundraiser–Body Armor

My friends at teambio.org is having a fundraiser, for what you may ask? Well a good cause for body armor for our troops thats about as good a cause as I can think of right now, I have wrote about this one veteran's voice and cold flame has wrote about this, and many more have wrote about this problem,my hat is off to these guys for coming up with such a noble gesture, use this link or the link above to go directly to the store I mean we can afford at least a sticker for five bucks, some can afford a shirt or more stuff. The time is past for speeches and BS the time of action is at hand.support and help our troops in any way you can, there are a lot of bloggers out there that can help in some way even if it is a little and make this effort a tremendous success.
If our government is slow to this response we can do what we can to help our fellow americans in harm's way,I know as well as you the administration is not doing its job therefore it is up to us to help if we can in this, like I say a five buck sticker for your car or truck will help and maybe those who see our sticker will want one of their own.

Health Care A West Virginia Project

Posted: 1/28/2006 by Floyd in

We should be watching Gov. Joe Manchin (D) of West Virginia taking on health care in his state, this is ongoing everywhere but it is good to know that some are resonding to what amounts to a National problem, and so many are unwilling to take on this task. Over the past weeks we have seen West Virginia in the mainstream media on the Sago mine disaster and another of a fire on a belt line in a mine in Logan County, the governor is also, with the help of his other colleagues
in his state, improving mine safety by making available more breathing equiptment and a system to track miners underground. The health care under Gov. Manchin is to have up to eight clinics to launch a pilot program across the state, this would allow the low income individuals of the state to get basic health care for as litlle as $1.00 and would help on the treatment of the poor in the state, the poor in any state are always hit the hardest of all it generally comes down between their medication and food. A lot of government officials talk of starting or of doing something about the medical costs but they are seldom seen doing anything about the problem,a lot of critics have hit the Hillary Clinton plan but any plan is better than none at all, and with all the problems the administration is having with the Medicare part D plan of theirs I see no reason that they can point a finger at anyone these days.

EPA wants a testing ground?

Of all the things to run into on the internet today I found a good one,and to tell you the truth I am glad I did, this shows what people are capable of today. I have dealt with this agency on a personal level and have got nowhere with them concerning a pollution problem created ultimately by a mining company who hired loggers to log above my tract of land, they left the area a mess and clogged and polluted a stream that goes by my house in the process. But enough on their ineffectiveness, the matter at hand is this; They want to experiment with pesticides,,on human beings, yes you read this right you can read the article for yourself from the link below and the way I read it pregnant women, and children. Maybe I'm looking at this or interpeting it wrong I sure hope I am. "Children could be exposed to intentional doses of pesticides to test their responses under the new EPA final draft plan.""The administrations plan is inconsistent with the law passed by Congress with bypartisan support,"said senator Boxer. The EPA administrator Stephen Johnson upholds pesticide experiments by saying it is needed to base their regulations . Read this entire article how the Bush administration is trying to allow this and actually overriding the law enacted by Congress, well that is enough searching for today I am glad all my readers can get the scope on this, actually I am afraid I might find something worse but highly unlikely this is pretty darn bad.

Deer hunting

I thought I would post this to my blog knowing that there are a lot of deer hunters and deer hunting going on in this state,my sister's son has killed four so far this year and most of the time we do not eat them but we do'nt waste them either. We generally end up butchering them and giving the meat away but it is good to put in chili it makes some good tasting chili, but the matter at hand is the article I found while doing some browsing today and that being deer meat could have something similar to mad cow disease. Of course this has'nt been proved to my knowing but we do not want to take chances,a lot of deer are hunted within the area of Kentucky I am in and basically it is a state wide sport. The article states that the University of Kentucky was involved with the procedings on this diagnosis, this will hinder our hunt because we do not believe in just killing the animal and letting it go to waste, the last one I helped Dave butcher was about a month ago but after reading the article I'm kinda ify on the whole thing.

USATODAY.com - Rx plan is failing to help the neediest
Every time you turn on the T.V. or your computer you are bombarded with this new part-D Medicare, one day they say it is free the next day it has a deductible and as I traced about trying very hard to get to the bottom of this I found that there is a deductible involved of $250 a year. But in this link above it leads one to believe that it is free or that it is for most americans and that is not true folks this is complicated as heck and to tell you the truth I do'nt know if we will ever figure it out. It seems like the one who wrote this is some kind of long politician that is covering every loophole there is but could not they could have broken it down to the cold hard truth? They will take an amount out of the Social Security check monthy,we will pay a $250 deductible and remember the two previous things are subject to change in other words they will increase . There are a lot of plans out there and it is so confusing it ain't funny,so I guess the question would be will they eventually fix it, maybe they will but I doubt it very much. The health care system is very close to being broke in this country and I would suspect it will not get better anytime soon as the ones on medicare part-B it increases yearly, we have a raise in this thing every year,no exceptions and why would this plan be any different. If they tell you something is free nine times out of ten they are pulling your leg,I would say close to 20% of my income is medical but that is not all, you have your electric,water,etc.etc. and do not forget the phone without that we do not have internet,my internet service right now is only $9.95 a month I can not afford DSL though it would be nice. As long as you are able to work you can get by well,if you watch yourself on buying things, and when you retire or get disabled from your job look out buddy you can not help the company anymore so they throw you to the dogs. My sister has lung cancer she is taking treatments at the time being kimo-therapy, and was unable to return to work, the medicare folks told her she would have to wait 24 months to get the medicare card, yes that is two years and would you guess what her insurance is to continue on,well that figure is in the neighborhood of $2200 a month the last I heard, she is in the process of shopping around but has not found anything reasonable, she is right close to 60 years old and has paid medicare since she was 17 years old. This is only one brief horror story of medicare,so do I think they are telling us everything they should? You bet your bottom dollar they are not.

Lexington Herald-Leader | 01/25/2006 | Coal mine ordered shut for roof offense

The mine where the Kentucky worker was killed in Pikeville was ordered shut down, according to the inspectors said roof bolts were missing heads or had been sheared, these bolts are put in the roof by a machine and supports the roof while working,I will also leave a link below of a previous post related to the Kentucky accident. This mine had previous violations just like those in West Virginia. My Father worked the mines almost 40 years but he did have some close shaves in there,he lost a finger and got his ribs and back dislocated in a slate fall it is a very dangerous job indeed but in areas of Appalachia this happens and the news does not cover them all,in fact last year there were I think two deaths in this area alone and one guy I new personally was killed in a related incident. He had left his coal truck parked as always just above the, what we call around here the mining shack which is somewhat liken to a little office and the truck somehow got on a roll, anyway it hit the office while they had broke for lunch and two were killed, the other one that was in there also got out alive but with many injuries, and to add to the recent deaths coal is on the increase which might have been mentioned in the media I do not know, but this drives the companies to produce more coal while the market is up. Matter of fact a friend of mine just opened up one about two weeks ago the coal in this thing is 8 foot thick, that is very high indeed because a lot of coal is running between 22 and 36 inches imagine working in these conditions 8 to 12 hours, that would make us an old man and fast. In the Herald it says that the violation and enforcement records were not available last night at this mine, well all they need to do is click on the link below and they would see them.

Iraq: The rebuild

Posted: by Floyd in
0

A $25 billion dollar American effort in Iraq has already come uder distress because of basically the
bureaucratic infighting, secrets and constantly increasing security costs this according to the preliminary draft. So the elctions are over in Iraq and now comes the time to try to rebuild what bombs have done earlier, and the oil Iraq has for exports has taken a dive due partly by the sabotage to oil and gas pipelines and it has actually dipped below pre-war levels. The total cost for the war in life and money is quite a big price for us to pay, after all our military has bore the brunt of the action in Iraq and according to a study for the pentagon which concludes that our military is wearing thin due to rotations in Iraq the Army is overextended. The military in not reaching its goals, the military has come up with a few things but mostly comes in the form of money,it is uping the ante on enlistment personel offering bigger money to enlist in the military and offering bigger money also to re-enlist. They are trying to make up the dif. if they can amid all of this you add on that Ford is closing some 14 plants with a hint of more to come, and then you think can we afford all that is coming on us. The oil that was supposed to be in Iraq to help on the rebuilding of the country they now are exporting less oil than before the war,so how we rebuild? And where will the money come from?

CNN.com - Bush tells abortion foes, 'We will prevail' - Jan 23, 2006

Bush lends his support to abortion foes,in the 33rd. anniversary of Roe v. Wade. If you could call it support,it is like I always say overturning Roe v. Wade will just cause abortion if a woman should need one more dangerous to her. Because it would be done in such a way as to endanger her life, with unsanitary conditions and unsavory human beings, this does not mean I am for killing babies,it simply is not Bush's business or the court for that matter, but I will go on on to say that in our lifetime it will be overturned simply because the court is stacked that way. Alito will be confirmed also because they have the majority so in a way he is right to say things he does, but who are we to judge every woman in America? Here is an ending quote, from Bush to the abortion foes; "And history tells us that with such a cause we will prevail."

[Most of the time I would not comment on this, because for one I do not live in New York and do not know this situtation. But read this article cafefully,,,,the Governor it looks like is making things worse, talking about blocking a side agreement with their pensions this is between the workers and company,it is not his business anyway. Workers and the Union will be fined for each day the buses and trains did not run this sounds fair? Let me add if I might that the company would be just as much to blame as the workers,it seems that everybody always trys to blame Labor in these matters but to look at this as a whole, they had to have a good reason to strike in the first place,we are not hearing the whole story here.]

Medicare Woes Take High Toll on Mentally Ill - New York Times

[More trouble for the Medicare Drug Plan that is in clear need of immediate help, this is a plan that I myself did not apply for because I knew it would be infamous for its inaffectiveness, and they would charge me 30+ dollars a month for it which in no doubt of mine will raise yearly. Most of the stories have to do with the poor and they were enrolled in the plan automatically,

this story in the times has to do with the assisted living individuals, and how they are not able to get their medicine. This also takes place in the state of Florida,at least 24 states have taken measures to pay for the perscriptions, but Florida is not among these states, thanks Jeb.

Flecther taking on Medicaid

Posted: by Floyd in
0

Gov. Flecther on wednesday set out to rehape medicaid, this program covers more than 700,000 Kentuckians. The overhaul could reap savings over $1 billion dollars over seven years.
"This is a landmark occurrence in the state," Flecther said. The state-federal health insurance program covers poor, elderly and disabled Kentuckians and covers in a nut shell one out of three Kentucky children and one out of seven seniors age 65 or over. There will be four health plans tailored to different groups of people covered by medicaid, each recipient will be automatically enrolled in a plan and of cource they will be contacted by mail to inform them of the changes. Flecther brags that his plan could become the model for the nation, and now the good stuff; Copayments will apply to some services and perscriptions, this ESTIMATE would be $1.00/$10.00 per service and or perscription and the maximum out-of-pocket would be around $225.00 a year, recipients will not lose sevices but there could be limits, perscriptions will be limited to four per month, hmm, though some chronic diseases would be exempt. Another key component will be to help medicaid eligible people pay premiums for private health insurance plans offered by employers. On this last key issue most of the Kentuckians that are on this plan are disabled and or can not work, the last component listed is basically useless to the majority on this card they get a monthly check of about $600,and they have to pay their electric, water, etc. out of this income, this shows how out of touch the represenatives of this state are and you always notice in these things they never define what is a chronic disease? This is a way to milk the poor of this state that only get as I have said about $600 a month these people can not afford to get anything as it is and now they get hit with this slap in the face. I would venture to guess that as years go by the price of perscriptions, doctor visits,etc.etc. will increase case and point the Medicare card which increases yearly.

Gov. Flecther,showing his true colors

Republican Gov. Ernie Flecther, got boos and rants from the state capital by hundred's of protesters today in Frankfurt. The state operated without a budget in 2004 because of a standoff between Flecther and the house over modifications to Kentucky's tax code. But this one is Union related and Flecther made reducing hourly wages for blue-collar tradesmen employed on public construction projects a key component of his proposed budget for the next two years. As he walked with his wife he was booed loudly by union protesters and I will add hundreds showed up,and I for one was happy to see all the unity in large numbers. The hundreds of protesters were audible during the address and they filled the capital and halls, let us hope his 38% poll rating holds up we can vote him out at the next election, this is basiclly a plan to repeal the state's pevailing wage law and a "right to work" plan that would open union shops to nonunion workers, more than 500 blue-collar workers came to the capital on Tuesday night
the Rotunda being filled to capacity,

and spilling onto the grounds outside,to oppose both measures,it was a beautiful site to see. But this my friends is typical right wing politics and anywhere they find to help companies and take money out of our pockets then that is the road they take. I would say that we have learned a valuable lesson here in Kentucky which had a Democratic governor for the last three decades and the very minute a right wing is elected they screw up God's creation, but at least I have learned part of the radical rights agenda, start a war, keep all the money you can from the middle-class,and hurt all unions because with those things the middle-class will get brazen and they might make to much money, yeah I almost forgot try and give big business like Wal-Mart a break and let the state's Medicaid pick up the tab. yeah that is some agenda.

I do not know how anyone could sleep good at night while telling the american people hey we screwed you by not paying you enough, and the UAW is so bad because they have health care and make decent money,do editorials really expect the average american to believe this crap? Do you know what it means when you break through the hog wash: It means you should be happy and grateful to make eight bucks an hour if you are lucky, and to clear up the lies what hurt GM was the foreign car market, and GM has been dying since the 1980's but seems like it is still selling trucks,a company can not stay in business and not make money, thanks to the Maryland Democrats who overrode the conservative governor on this much needed legislation, thank you Democrats for standing up for the workers of this country.]

A day of honor

A day to honor one of America's great leader's and advocater of liberty and freedom, first of all let me say that personally I do not know first hand the cruelty of segregation but do know of the plight it has left on our nation, and am glad that Dr. King and others like him spoke out and not only changed america but changed the world not through war and strife but through peace. The words of Dr. King now echo in our history with his famous "I have a dream" speech, one of the great upholders of liberty and freedom and all our words today can not come close to express his love of liberty and freedom. We need so many more like King today who would stand up for liberty and the freedoms of our country who do not always follow the status quo,but manage to rise above it and chant,,I stand for liberty I stand for freedom, and I stand for the ideals that this country was built on and in Dr. Kings great moments of history what did he actually stand for? He stood for an america where freedom and equality walked hand and hand with mother liberty leading the way. America does not put her liberty and freedom on the back burner for the sake of much speeking whose end is naught, what do you say we maybe just maybe, give up on some of our liberty. Let us put more trust in our politicians they will guide us and they will always know best and it is in that hope that we cope from day to day, hoping that tomorrow will be better and praying we do not turn on the tube and another liberty is tramped under foot. Today I salute a man that had the courage to stand up and say I am for liberty and bucked the status quo and today if we all just read a little about his marches or speeches, then we ourselves could see that dream.

Low income heating assistance

Earlier this month Democrat Rep. Rick Nelson co-sponsered House Bill 283,it would bolster the state's Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding with $5 million in immediate aid from the state's budget reserve,or "rainey day,"trust fund. kentucky would join a number of states including Pennsylvania and Virginia that supplement the federal LIHEAP,a lack of federal funding for the 2005-2006 LIHEAP program has left many states scrambling to meet their citizens low-income heating assistance needs. This legislation will help hundreds of Kentuckians who face losing heating assistance before the cold days of winter are over, the $2.7 million in state LIHEAP funds now available to meet peak demand will only last about two weeks. Nelson said "People are having to make difficult decisions about whether to buy food, medicine or pay for heat.
They should'nt have to make those choices." HB 283 also proposes that regulated utilities report to the Kentucky Public Service Commision each year on their participation in and planning for residential weatherization and low income heating assistance programs. HB 283 is being considered during the 2006 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly. The session itself with extend through mid-April. My thanks to Rick for co-sponsering this legislation

Lost Time, Lost Lives in the Mine - New York Times

[The bottom line of this story is it took aprox. 12 hrs. for the rescue team to assemble and begin decending into the mine. Why not pick or hire and train a group of miners to work at your facility but also some to be trained in rescue procedures. this is not difficult, example; you employ 60 people why not out of those 60,choose a rescue team and train them in procedures to use during a cave-in or explosion? A company I worked for personally had 152 employees, chemicals were involved here at this facility and I happened to be one of the ten who were on a team if such an accident would happen,we were trained went to school for it,had siminars for it and had mock drills for it,we new what to do and not to mention equipment for it. Surely they have not sit around doing nothing, but that is basically what this article is saying and surely this is not true but if it is they need to take a serious look at thier procedures. Tuesday in Pikeville,Ky. one miner was killed when a roof collasped about 900 feet inside the mine and this particular mine has had 114 citations since November 2004,the company has paid $1,788 which is 26% of what is owed being $6,925 in fines. The media keeps digging around trying to make this Abramoff scandal a two party affair and trying to find something to lay equal blame well here is a news flash there is no so called equal blame and anyone following the news will figure the mess out,Americans are not dumb we are intelligent people able to define our own destiny and will sort through all this and come to a conclusion. Alito is in the news another believer that if abortion is illegal then therefore we will not have anymore abortion, all a repeal of Roe v Wade will do is cause the act to be done in dark allys of this country under substandard and dangerous means the only people who suffer are the women of this country. The good thing that has emerged lately is that the charities are doing rather well since this thing broke and to that I am grateful but do you think this would have happened if they had never got caught? I do not intend to intergrate sarcasm to this but it is a legitimate question I believe they would have run to the bank with thier loot, and why do we have a legislature or why do we even need warrants? If we throw one thing out the window why not something else, what I'm saying is where do you draw the line do we exempt people of power to do as they wish or do we whittel it to excelsior and burn it? This body armor our men and women need in a war torn foriegn country has been talked about and debated for months I urge you to read the posts on coldflame and oneveteransvoice two which have spoken out on this critical issue the armor needs to be addressed just cause it has died down within the news does not make it go away, any life saved because of better armor is worth it I would be willing to pay more tax to save a life. I am not one who hides behind religion because God wants us to be at peace if at all it would be possible because Jesus was a man of peace and of love and the troops are always in my prayers and hope that they all safely come home to America,we at times do not agree on things but in the end I am grateful to the fact we are free and we are Americans who will get through this.

[I am sorry but I will have to go conservative on this one,I think this movie is trash and therefore can not condone it simply because as a believer in God I find it offensive. Some might call me a wing nut to which I am not and I know on the other hand we have a remote control,we do not have to watch this garbage but if someone wants to that is thier perogative this is only the way I see it and in no way am I condeming my fellow Americans if they find interest in it themselves.]

The Sago Mine Disaster - New York Times

Very good article about the disater at the Sago mine in West Virginia, the safety violations alone tell a haunting story and reference to looking byond big coal to the interests of those who risk thier lives,is just about getting it right. I also like the reference to the Union because before the Union came there was no money to speak of and the danger was far greater, the Sago mine was non-union but whether or not it played a factor we do not know at this time, but the fines that Sago paid $24,000 is just big business fashion and I was not surprised to see it. With the Union you could file a grevience and also bring to the attention of the ceo and managers the dangerous conditions there. This is exactly why big business and the Bush administration hate the unions so much because at best you have a voice in dealing with the issues such as safety and if you feel your life is unduly put in danger you can voice it. But this jargon has always been thus with the Republicans they always favor big business and do nothing to help in labor because big business is where thier interests lie,and whether we have the junior Bush as president or another "right-winger" when ever a stike happens see where thier interests are in the matter,I can tell you one thing they will not support labor on any issue, when voting there are some things that I do not agree with within the democratic party but also I am glad that I am able to see the political agenda, and base my vote on that. I remember when they were trying to get the union in at my dad's mine where he worked ,he had lost a finger and a rock fall had once put him in the hospital for three weeks and during those times we were unsure he would even pull through, but he did recover and came to support the union and a lot of safety issues at the mine where he worked was resolved, the companies even hired gun thugs to intimidate the miners in Harlan and Perry counties and a lot died during those times in Kentucky, but eventually the union prevailed in a lot of cases, and times got a little better but mining is always risky and very dangerous, you can not take all the danger out of mining but it can be made safer.

The twelve miners found, but only one survivor

What a beauracratic mess going on here in West Virginia, this is tragic the rescue team had put out false information and someone got thier wires crossed and a miscommunication which went to the command center was not correct. Now they are saying they do'nt know how that information got out? This is unbelievable at it's best the hopes and dreams of these families were crushed tonight due to this it is now 3:12 a.m just a while ago celebration was taking place and the families got caught up in the false hope that thier loved ones had survived,I just saw those hopes dashed and it is sickening to me at this point, although I am so glad that at least one was found alive am glad in this sense that his family might find some relief. I myself was so elated when I heard the news I was happy to know that the families waiting down there in West Virginia and to hear and see them(CEO) now standing there passing the buck as usual,I mean it do'nt take a massive intellect to know these things but to let this bad information continue for three hours is complete out of touch communication it seems that it's run like the federal government noone seems to know what the other is doing,Ka-sa-ra-sa-rah.
I can't get over this if you make a mistake just own up to it do'nt go on with long speeches trying somehow to justify what happened, you just F***** up admit it and go on. But try and speek words that might help thier families cope with this trama, but please remember the one who is clinging to life at this time and hope for his speedy recovery.

Jobs in America an industry in turmoil

Coal mining still remains dangerous long after they started back before 1920, I was reading a story on Cnn how miners are trapped in West Virginia and was thinking how my own father was almost killed in the coal mines several times,he lost one of his fingers and got a couple of cracked discs in his back in his some odd forty years in there. He started in the mines when the UMWof A was a young organization it might be a lot differant now but in the 40's and 50's when the union was taking hold good here it was a good thing,I am for the labor union's now I've said it that is another problem I have over the so called "right agenda" do you honestly believe that big business would take money out of it's proffitts to pay a decent wage? Here lately the administration has declined the steel industry of competing in this market and the fact of the matter is we cannot compete with cheap China steel which at the current will drive American steel out of business, the wages in China I will say are slightly cheaper than ours do'nt you agree? Now ask yourself how can we compete with this scab steel in here? It's always the same, side with big business over labor,it was always thus this is a disagreement I have with the "right" you can't blindly follow an agenda if half the country do'nt know what's going on,I for one do not look forward to standing in an unemployment line just so big business can cut a break. The coal companies before the UMWofA came along owned the land they owned the store and of note they also owned the house they called them "camp houses," a little history lesson they were lucky (the miners) to get five or ten dollars a day, also when you buy a shirt or pants read the label you're paying anywhere from 12/35 dollars for an item that cost maybe a dollar or two to make in some sweat shop in Bangladesh. If we can't market our own goods in America how pray tell are we helping our economy? I heard on the news about a month or so ago of a business man in Pennslyvania that was in process of building a plant to convert coal into gasoline, they went on to say the German's had the technology in World War-2 I'm glad that a few are out there trying to develop more technology on how to use our own resources here at home. My prayers are with the trapped miners in West Virginia and hope they get out very soon to be with thier loved ones and hope evryone reading this blog prays for thier safety also.

More GOP Woes in Kentucky

The newspaper poll in September showed a 54% disapproved of Governor Fletcher's job proformance while 38% approved of it,this info. taken from the Middlesboro Daily News dated 31 Dec 2004. Gov. Ernie Fletcher who happens to be the first Republican governor in 30 years in the state of Kentucky, has been haunted by a hiring scandel throughout the last half of 2005. A Franklin grand jury has indicted 13 current and former members of Flecther's administration and associates on misdemeanor charges related to the investigation. In August of last year Flecther pardoned nine people specifically and gave blanket amnesty to anyone in his administration, heading into his third legislative session, his ability to sway lawmakers on things such as his expected budget proposal and plans to further "tweak" the state tax code are uncertain
at this time. heading into '06 among other things he wants to make Kentucky more business friendly,he also wants to build a new arena in Louisville and another at the Kentucky Horse Park,
in Lexington. Flecther has some ground to make up he's up for reelection in 2007,Phil Laemmle,a
University of Louisville science professor stated,"Flecther clearly is in a weakened state." In addition he would face obstacles of election-year politics. State represenative J.R. Gray, said the investigation had stunted Flecther's ability to lead,"It's going to be extremely tough for him personally to move anything." Link to previous post= Within reason: GOP woes in Kentucky

Sunni Rights and Wrongs in Iraq - New York Times

In elections based on a democratic vote you still have winners and losers it took us over 200 years and we're still working on it. Sunni Arabs have dominated Iraq since after World War-1,but in a democracy the majority rules, what they need to adopt is what we have and that is a Supreme Court which is where one person can have an idea such as,oh let's see since I do'nt approve of my kid praying in school I do'nt want the other 90% who do want to pray in school to do it niether. Using this tryed and true method the Sunni still could remain in control of Iraq. We also have had contested elections in our country but not at the level of Iraq, the people who ran there for office won by a substantial margin it was'nt that close of an election. But I still remember the tales that started to come out of Iraq before this election one of them being a truck load of ballots from Iran and fraud is possiable but with all the observers, about 120,000 strong fraud seems unlikely. But they have taken thier first step with democrarcy and they've already started bickering.

States Take Lead in Push to Raise Minimum Wages - New York Times

Seventeen states and the District of Columbia, have acted on thier own on the minimum wage issue, since the issue has been stagnated by Republican lawmakers and business groups have argued it would drive away jobs, the last raise was in 1997,Oregon with the highest ($7.25) has twice the rate of job growth as the rest of the country. This is an issue I've harped on a lot,the "right" has had a choke hold on this since '97 and people cannot make ends meet on the wage as it is now.
